Peritoneal carcinomatosis with desmoplasia and osseous metaplasia mimicking encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis in a cat: case report

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis in cats: a two-case report and literature review

Summary: This is a case series report on two castrated domestic shorthair cats with sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP). Both cats presented with acute vomiting and distended abdomen, as well as a history of chronic apathy, recurrent vomiting and diarrhea. Surgical treatment was performed to remove the fibrous capsule surrounding the intestines, and biopsies confirmed the diagnosis. One cat recovered well, while the other had unsatisfactory improvement and was euthanized.

Metastatic intestinal adenocarcinoma with osseous metaplasia in two Domestic Korean Shorthair cats

Summary: Two domestic Korean Shorthair cats presented with dyschezia and vomiting. Computed tomography revealed colonic and small intestinal masses with calcification and metastasis. Histopathology revealed intestinal adenocarcinoma with osseous metaplasia. Distant metastasis and lymph node involvement were related to poor prognosis.

Metastatic intestinal adenocarcinoma with osseous metaplasia in two Domestic Korean Shorthair cats

Summary: This article reports two cases of domestic Korean Shorthair cats presenting with dyschezia and vomiting. Imaging revealed a colonic mass with calcification and lymph node metastasis in one case, and a small intestinal mass with disseminated mesenteric metastasis and calcification in the other case. Histopathology confirmed intestinal adenocarcinoma with osseous metaplasia. One case died from distant metastasis two months after surgery, while the other case showed no metastasis for five months but eventually presented with anorexia and was euthanized.

Feline sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis and effusion

Summary: A 9-year-old castrated male domestic medium-hair cat with previously diagnosed chronic kidney disease presented with anorexia and vomiting, leading to the discovery of abdominal effusion and a left renal perihilar mass. Cytologic and immunohistochemical evaluations confirmed a diagnosis of sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis. A cell culture line was successfully established for future research purposes.

Imaging Findings in Dogs and Cats With Presumptive Sclerosing Encapsulating Peritonitis

Summary: This retrospective case series describes imaging findings in dogs and cats with sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP). The study found that ultrasound showed echogenic fluid and bowel loops gathering, radiographs showed bowel loops gathering and abdominal fat stranding, and CT examination showed abdominal fat stranding. Previous surgery, pregnancy, and the presence of a perforating foreign body were identified as potential causes of the disease.

Histological Classification and Immunohistochemical Study of Feline Colorectal Epithelial Tumors

Summary: This study found that most feline colorectal epithelial tumors are carcinoma, with tubular adenocarcinoma being the most common type. These tumors often exhibit characteristics such as vascular invasion, serosal infiltration, and lymph node metastasis. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that most tumor cells were positive for CK20 and CDX2. Lack of tubule formation, female sex, and low CDX2 labeling may be associated with the malignancy of the tumor.

While there was considerable overlap in imaging features and clinical signs, some distinguishing features were observed. Cytological or histopathological analysis is recommended for definitive diagnosis due to the observed overlap.
