Model Order Reduction via Moment-Matching: A State of the Art Review

Danish Rafiq et al.

Summary: In recent decades, there has been significant progress in developing lower-order, parsimonious models for large-scale dynamical systems, as well as in model order reduction techniques. Moment-matching based order reduction methods have emerged as the most commonly adopted platform for reducing systems in large-scale settings and have extensive applications in various fields.

Dispersivity variations of solute transport in heterogeneous sediments: numerical and experimental study

Ziqi Ma et al.

Summary: The accuracy of flow and contaminant transport prediction in subsurface formations is significantly affected by heterogeneity. The study found that the model can accurately predict plume spreading when the spatial correlation structure is well defined. Moreover, the upscaled dispersivity is mainly influenced by the cross-transition probability structure.

Generalized semi-analytical solution for coupled multispecies advection-dispersion equations in multilayer porous media

Elliot J. Carr

Summary: This paper presents a semi-analytical solution for heterogeneous layered media and a general first-order reaction network, combining a transformation method with a recently developed semi-analytical solution for single-species advection-dispersion reaction equations in layered media. The generalized solution is applicable to arbitrary numbers of species and layers, with general Robin-type conditions at the inlet and outlet. Results from four test cases demonstrate the effectiveness of the solution approach, matching previously published results and numerical results obtained via finite volume discretisation.

Introducing a new method for calculating the spatial and temporal distribution of pollutants in rivers

S. Amiri et al.

Summary: The study finds that pollutant transport in rivers is more complex than in porous media, highlighting the importance of focusing on solutions for river environments. The analytical solution obtained through the generalized integral transform technique shows high accuracy and applicability for solving pollutant transport equations with variable coefficients and general initial and boundary conditions. Comparisons with existing analytical solutions and numerical solutions demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed method for solving the pollutant transport equation in rivers.

A meshless geometric multigrid method based on a node-coarsening algorithm for the linear finite element discretization

Sang Truong Ha et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a meshless geometric multigrid method based on a node-coarsening algorithm, which constructs sets of nodes in coarse levels without the need to generate a sequence of coarse grids, solving problems present in existing GMG methods. The method is validated for various 2D/3D benchmark problems and found to be nearly as efficient as traditional grid-based MG methods in terms of CPU time.

Numerical Investigation into Coarse-Scale Models of Diffusion in Complex Heterogeneous Media

Nathan G. March et al.

Summary: The study focuses on coarse-scale diffusion models in block heterogeneous media and evaluates the factors affecting the accuracy of resulting solutions. It confirms that periodic boundary conditions are optimal for homogenization cells and recommends using the smallest computationally feasible homogenization cell in numerical simulations.
