Evaluation of dynamic derailment in a railway switch considering the longitudinal impacts caused by vehicle retarder

Jun Lai et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional freight wagon-track (turnout) dynamic interaction model considering longitudinal impacts and vehicle retarder braking is established in this study. The comparative analysis between simulation results and field observation for derailment is presented. The results indicate that longitudinal impacts increase the derailment risk and side wear depth of the switch rail also affects derailment.

Dynamic derailment simulation of an empty wagon passing a turnout in the through route

Xin Ge et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the derailment risk of vehicles passing through railway turnouts, analyzing potential factors and developing an interaction model. It was found that empty wagons passing through turnouts are at risk of derailment, with recommendations to reduce this risk including rail lubrication and avoiding excessive braking forces.

Assessment of derailment risk in railway turnouts through quasi-static analysis and dynamic simulation

Ping Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the derailment mechanism when trains pass through railway switches, and identifies two specific derailment stages in switch panel. The 3D derailment coefficient limit in the switch area is much lower than the main track, indicating a higher likelihood of wheels derailing in this area.

Influence of the motion conditions of wheelsets on dynamic derailment behaviour of a bogie in railway turnouts

Jun Lai et al.

Summary: The study highlights that wheel climb derailment often occurs in the turnout area due to poor track alignment and uneven switch rail cross-sections. Different wheelset motion conditions can impact derailment behavior, and ignoring the effect of the switch rail can significantly reduce derailment risk.

Running safety analysis of a freight train passing through a single crossover during braking

Yichang Zhou et al.

Summary: Studying the dynamic behavior of trains passing through crossovers under braking forces is crucial for ensuring train safety, as factors like braking forces, wheel-rail friction coefficient, and crossover layout significantly impact safety. Maintaining one factor at an ideal level can greatly improve the safety probability of empty wagons, while lubricating wheel flanges or using a 600-meter radius curve can enhance vehicle performance in practice.
