Comparative study of circular and square gravity-based fish cages with different dimensions under pure current conditions

Magnus Aske Mjatveit et al.

Summary: The numerical results indicate that the circular cage can achieve larger cultivation volume compared to the square cage with the same netting area, especially for large-scale fish farms. The square cage has a slightly higher drag force per cultivation volume than the circular cage.

Effects of mooring line breakage on dynamic responses of grid moored fish farms under pure current conditions

Hui Cheng et al.

Summary: This study utilized the program FhSim to conduct time-domain simulations to investigate the structural responses of fish farms when mooring lines break. The analysis focused on the tension distribution and buoy displacement resulting from breakages at different mooring lines. Suggestions were made for identifying broken mooring lines and predicting maximum tension increment, as well as improving mooring system design and monitoring operations to prevent fish escapes.

Experimental and numerical investigations of a mooring line failure of an aquaculture net cage subjected to currents

Hung-Jie Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of mooring line failure on an aquaculture net cage through laboratory experiments and numerical simulations. Results showed that when one upstream mooring line failed, the load in the other line increased significantly, but the system reached a new force equilibrium quickly. Additionally, significant yaw rotation of the floating collar of the net-cage system was observed.

Finite Element Analysis of the Effect of Currents on the Dynamics of a Moored Flexible Cylindrical Net Cage

Zhongchi Liu et al.

Summary: A numerical model associated with wave-current interactions with a moored flexible cylindrical cage was developed using the finite element method. The effects of different design parameters, current speeds, and time on the cage shapes were analyzed from the finite element results, with comparisons made to analytical model solutions. The results suggest that the numerical model is reliable for the design of flexible cylindrical net cages for offshore aquacultures.

Dynamic wave induced loads on a moored flexible cylindrical net cage with analytical and numerical model simulations

S. C. Mohapatra et al.

Summary: A mathematical model based on linearized water wave theory is developed to study the interaction between a moored floating flexible cylindrical net cage and waves. Analytical solutions for horizontal displacement and acceleration are obtained and compared with numerical simulations and experimental results, demonstrating the reliability of the analytical model in designing flexible cylindrical net cages for offshore aquaculture applications.

Summary: This study developed a semi-analytical model based on small-amplitude wave theory to describe the wave fields around a single gravity-type cylindrical open fish net cage. The model results exhibited significant hydroelastic characteristics of the net cages and revealed the relationships between wave forces on the net cage with hydrodynamic and structural parameters.

Design evaluation of a fish cage mooring system with different bridle line connections using model experiments and simulations

Subong Park et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural safety of fish cage systems by designing four types of systems with different bridle connection arrangements. It was found that the position of the bridle lines, the number of bridle lines, and the angle between the frame lines and currents/waves direction influence the structural safety of the system. Multiple-rope connection methods and connecting bridle lines at midpoints of frame lines were shown to improve structural safety, indicating that these factors play a crucial role in enhancing the safety of fish cage systems.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic behavior of a 6 x 6 semi-rigid sea station fish cage array under the effect of waves. Through numerical simulations, the tension in the mooring lines and rotations of the sea stations under different wave directions are analyzed. The results provide valuable insights for the design and engineering practice of the semi-rigid sea station system.
