An electroactive ion exchange hybrid film with collaboratively-driven ability for electrochemically-mediated selective extraction of chloride ions

Wangwang Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, a BiOCl/PPy-Cl hybrid film with core-shell nanosheet structure was successfully fabricated for selective extraction of chloride ions with superior conductivity and high adsorption capacity. The hybrid film displayed prominent selectivity and stable adsorption performance towards Cl- due to the outer PPy-Cl shell. The excellent Cl- uptake performance was attributed to the open interlayer structure of BiOCl and the collaboratively-driven force generated by the reversible electrochemical redox of BiOCl and PPy.

Tip-Intensified Interfacial Microenvironment Reconstruction Promotes an Electrocatalytic Chlorine Evolution Reaction

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the enhanced catalytic behavior of nanotips in electrocatalysis for fuel-forming reactions. A homemade visualization platform with high temporal-spatial resolution is used to collect information from the local microenvironment of a solution near an electrode. The study demonstrates that periodic nanoneedles are beneficial for field-induced anion concentration, water dissociation, and optimal pH conditions, leading to higher chlorine evolution reaction (CER) efficiency. The tip-enhanced effects also improve the concentration and temperature gradients in the microenvironment, facilitating the transport of substrates and diffusion of products.

Reactivity of Chlorine Radicals (Cl• and Cl2•-) with Dissolved Organic Matter and the Formation of Chlorinated Byproducts

Yu Lei et al.

Summary: Chlorine radicals, including Cl· and Cl2(·-), are produced in sunlight waters or water treatment processes. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a significant role in reacting with or scavenging Cl· and Cl2(·-) in water. This study quantified the reaction rates between chlorine radicals and DOM and observed that DOM with high aromaticity and total antioxidant capacity tends to react faster with Cl2(·-). Additionally, the study monitored the formation of chlorinated byproducts, highlighting the importance of DOM in scavenging chlorine radicals and the potential risks associated with producing unknown toxicity chlorinated byproducts.
