Effect of sintering time on electrical, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric performances of microwave synthesized sodium bismuth titanate ceramics

S. Jayasri et al.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of lead-free ceramic sodium bismuth titanate (Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3/NBT) via a cost and time-effective microwave synthesis route is reported. The microstructural, electrical, and optical characteristics of NBT ceramics are investigated. The results show that NBT samples sintered for 30 and 40 minutes are single-phase with tightly packed micron-sized grains and ferroelectric properties. Additionally, an improved piezoelectric coefficient is observed with increasing sintering time.

Formation mechanism of CuNiAl-rich multi-structured precipitation and its effect on mechanical properties for ultra-high strength low carbon steel obtained via direct quenching and tempering process

Wen Fu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructural transformation and precipitation behavior of CuNiAl-rich particles under the influence of the direct quenching and tempering (DQ-T) process. The results showed that the high-density dislocations formed during the DQ process provided numerous nucleation sites for the CuNiAl-rich particles. Phase field method simulation revealed the coarsening mechanisms and formation of 9R-B2 core-shell structural particles. The yield strength of the steel was increased due to co-precipitation, while retaining good toughness.

The effect of atmosphere on the flash-sintering of nanoscale titania ceramics

Qizhong Wang et al.

Summary: The atmosphere significantly affects the flash-sintering process, with the use of argon resulting in a dramatic reduction in the flash-onset furnace temperature for titania nanopowders. This leads to finer, more uniform grain sizes and lower, uniform porosity in the ceramics.

Pragati Singh et al.

Summary: Sodium bismuth titanate (NBT) was synthesized using solid-state reaction (SS) and polyol mediated synthesis (PM) methods, with PM resulting in a single-phase at lower temperatures. XRD and morphological studies showed that PM samples had smaller grain sizes, slight aggregation, and higher conductivity.

High field electroformation of sodium bismuth titanate and its solid solutions with barium titanate

Pengrong Ren et al.

Summary: Lead-free ceramics based on NBT have shown excellent ferroelectric properties, positioning them as top contenders to replace lead-based piezoelectrics. However, the defect chemistry of NBT is complex and high oxygen ionic conductivity can negatively impact ferroelectric properties. The non-linear dependence of conductivity on acceptor concentration allows for a wide range of tuning possibilities in NBT-based materials.
