Multi-objective equilibrium optimizer slime mould algorithm and its application in solving engineering problems

Qifang Luo et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a multi-objective equilibrium optimizer slime mould algorithm (MOEOSMA) for solving real-world constraint engineering problems. The proposed algorithm outperforms existing multi-objective slime mould algorithms in terms of optimization performance. MOEOSMA incorporates dynamic coefficients for adjusting exploration and exploitation trends, an elite archiving mechanism for promoting convergence, a crowding distance method for maintaining Pareto front distribution, and an equilibrium pool strategy for enhancing exploration ability. Experimental results demonstrate that MOEOSMA not only finds more Pareto optimal solutions, but also maintains a good distribution in decision and objective spaces. Statistical analysis shows that MOEOSMA has a strong competitive advantage in terms of convergence, diversity, uniformity, and extensiveness, and its overall performance is significantly better than other comparable algorithms.

Summary: This paper presents a hybrid multi-objective algorithm called MO-SHADE-MRFO for structural design problems. The algorithm combines the updating rules of SHADE and the operators from MRFO to balance exploration and exploitation. It utilizes an external archive to save and update obtained Pareto fronts during the optimization process. Experimental results show that MO-SHADE-MRFO outperforms other compared algorithms in terms of the performance metrics HV, IGD, and STE.

Multi-stage guided stochastic search for optimization and standardization of free-form steel double-layer grids

Saeid Kazemzadeh Azad et al.

Summary: There has been a growing interest in the use of free-form steel grid structures with irregularly curved yet aesthetically pleasing configurations in recent decades, although limited work has been devoted to their optimum design. This paper proposes a computationally efficient algorithm for optimization of real-size free-form steel double-layer grids, providing various non-dominated design alternatives considering both the minimum weight and assortment of steel section sizes. The algorithm demonstrates its usefulness in challenging test examples by plotting obtained Pareto fronts illustrating the trade-off between weight and variety of steel section sizes in the final design.
