Overview of the 2022 WHO Classification of Thyroid Neoplasms

Zubair W. Baloch et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the changes in the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Tumors that relate to the thyroid gland. The new classification provides a more detailed understanding of the different types of thyroid tumors based on their cell of origin, pathologic features, molecular profiles, and biological behavior. It also introduces new categories, such as thyroid follicular nodular disease, non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features, and high-grade differentiated thyroid carcinomas. The classification emphasizes the importance of biomarkers in diagnosis and prognosis.

The BRAFV600E Mutation Is Not a Risk Factor for More Aggressive Tumor Behavior in Radiogenic and Sporadic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma at a Young Age

Liudmyla Zurnadzhy et al.

Summary: The frequency of BRAF(V600E) in young Ukrainian patients with radiogenic and sporadic papillary thyroid carcinomas increases with age, but does not confer a more aggressive course regardless of tumor etiology. Major clinicopathological differences between radiogenic and sporadic PTCs are observed among the BRAF(V600E)-negative tumors.
