YOLOSR-IST: A deep learning method for small target detection in infrared remote sensing images based on super-resolution and YOLO

Ronghao Li et al.

Summary: Infrared remote sensing imaging has diverse applications in both military and civilian fields, and the detection of dim small targets is an important research topic. However, current model-driven and deep learning methods have limitations in handling noise, target size, contrast, and feature fusion, resulting in missed detections and false alarms. To address these issues, this paper proposes a detection method based on super-resolution and deep learning. The method achieves high accuracy and effectively solves the problem of missed detections and false alarms.

Infrared small target detection based on gray intensity descent and local gradient watershed

Lang Wu et al.

Summary: Robust infrared small target detection is crucial for infrared search and tracking systems. Existing methods typically utilize statistical features to measure the difference between target and background, which may not accurately represent the target contrast for small targets. This paper proposes a novel non-window structure filter for small target detection, combining high-frequency information and local maximum points to obtain candidate target points and calculating a Sobel gradient map for subsequent processing. The filter, based on gray intensity descent and local gradient watershed characteristics, is then used to calculate the contrast of each candidate target point. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several baseline methods in terms of detection rate, false alarm rate, and speed, especially for small and weak targets with a size smaller than 3 x 2.

Attentional Local Contrast Networks for Infrared Small Target Detection

Yimian Dai et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel model-driven deep network is proposed for infrared small target detection, which combines discriminative networks and conventional model-driven methods. By designing a feature map cyclic shift scheme and incorporating bottom-up attentional modulation, the network is able to encode long-range contextual interactions and preserve small target features effectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed network outperforms other model-driven methods and deep networks, showing a performance boost in small target detection.

Infrared maritime dim small target detection based on spatiotemporal cues and directional morphological filtering

Yongsong Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a small target detection scheme based on spatiotemporal cues and multidirectional morphological filtering. The scheme constructs multidirectional structuring elements and incorporates morphological operations to measure the differences between the target and its surroundings. Local intensity difference measure and local Gaussian-like shape measure are presented to distinguish small targets from background clutter, and a new appearance descriptor called histogram of oriented morphological filtering is designed to characterize small targets in the temporal domain. The proposed algorithm outperforms existing methods in detecting dim small targets buried in complex maritime clutter.

Summary: In this paper, the popular RX detector is extended to the more realistic replacement model case in the context of hyperspectral anomaly detection. By estimating the background power variation, the standard RX scheme is improved to obtain the closed-form Replacement RX (RRX), which outperforms the standard RX in a real data benchmark experiment.
