YCorrelation between molecular stacking and anisotropic texture in spinnable mesophase pitch

Hiroki Shimanoe et al.

Summary: This study closely examined the correlation between the anisotropic texture and (002) molecular stacking property of spinnable mesophase pitch (SMP). It was found that SMP is a specific solution consisting of mesogenic and solvent components, with the mesogenic component composed of a cluster unit of (002) stacked molecular sheets. The anisotropic texture of SMP is strongly correlated with the height of (002) molecular stacking.

Fabrication of ultralight reticulated carbon foams for thermal insulation from raffinate pitch of low-temperature coal tar

Ming Yu et al.

Summary: This research proposes a new method using low-temperature coal tar and abundantly available bamboo leaves to manufacture an ultralight reticulated carbon foam for thermal insulation. The composition and performance of the carbon foam can be tailored by changing the concentration of bamboo leaves. The foam containing 10% bamboo leaves exhibits the lowest density and thermal conductivity.

Insight into the reactivity of aromatic-rich fractions co-carbonized with polyethylene glycol for preparation of isotropic pitch with superior spinnability

Luning Chai et al.

Summary: The co-carbonization process of aromatic-rich distillate oil and polyethylene glycol was studied, and the chemical structures and reaction routes of different fractions were characterized. The results showed that the heavy fraction exhibited the highest availability for co-carbonization reaction, while the light fraction performed the worst.

Influence of boron trifluoride complex addition on structure and composition of mesophase pitch from FCC decant oil via two-stage thermotreatment

Jun Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates a two-stage thermotreatment process for optimizing the molecular structure and composition distribution of mesophase pitch, using boron trifluoride ethyl valerate complex as a catalyst. The results show that the two-stage thermotreatment process can alter the chemical structure of the aromatic nucleus and achieve a suitable softening point, as well as high content of organic structures and soluble sub-fractions.

Modified effect on properties of mesophase pitch prepared from various two-stage thermotreatments of FCC decant oil

Bin Lou et al.

Summary: The comparative study of different two-stage heat treatments was conducted to illustrate the modified effects on improving yield and spinnability of mesophase pitch. The results showed that the short duration of these treatments could decrease occurrence of undesired reactions.
