Dynamic optimal power flow for isolated microgrid incorporating renewable energy sources

M. Basu

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic optimal power flow problem for isolated microgrids with renewable energy sources and solves it using the elephant clan optimization algorithm, self-organizing hierarchical particle swarm optimizer with time-varying acceleration coefficients, and grey wolf optimization. The results show that the cost obtained from the elephant clan optimization algorithm is the lowest among the three techniques in four different test systems.

Problem-based optimal scenario generation and reduction in stochastic programming

R. Henrion et al.

Summary: This paper reviews previous approaches to optimal scenario generation and reduction and suggests using problem-specific data for stability estimates. For linear two-stage stochastic programs, the problem-based approach to optimal scenario generation can be reformulated as a best approximation problem and a generalized semi-infinite program. Convexity is shown for the latter when either right-hand sides or costs are random, and it can be transformed into a semi-infinite program in some cases. The paper also discusses problem-based scenario reduction for two-stage models and optimal scenario generation for chance constrained programs, as well as problem-based scenario generation for the classical newsvendor problem.

A transfer learning-based scenario generation method for stochastic optimal scheduling of microgrid with newly-built wind farm

Jinxing Hu et al.

Summary: In the stochastic optimal scheduling of microgrid with multiple wind farms, accurately describing uncertainties is crucial. This paper proposes a novel transfer learning-based scenario generation method to generate wind speed scenarios for a newly-built wind farm by utilizing historical information from other existing data-rich farms. Experimental results demonstrate that the generated scenarios better describe the properties of target wind speed and improve the reliability of microgrid scheduling results when data is very limited.

Forecasting methods for wind power scenarios of multiple wind farms based on spatio-temporal dependency structure

Yanting Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposed a new wind power generation scheme for multiple wind farms that considers both spatial and temporal dependence of wind power time series in an efficient way based on copula theory. Different vine copulas were studied and compared, and a novel two-stage spatio-temporal sampling method was used to generate wind power scenario samples. The proposed conditional quantile sampling method can convert samples into specific wind power generation scenarios with more accuracy and efficiency.

A Day-Ahead Chance Constrained Volt/Var Control Scheme With Renewable Energy Sources by Novel Scenario Generation Method in Active Distribution Networks

Ziwei Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a chance constrained mixed integer second order cone model to handle uncertainties in nodal power and nonlinear branch flow equations due to the integration of large amounts of renewable energy sources. A direct and fast scenario generation method is proposed for RES outputs using a seven-step probability distribution model, along with an efficient solution that utilizes only a few larger probability level scenarios. Numerical simulations on the IEEE 69 standard system demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm over traditional Monte Carlo sampling-based methods.
