Influence of carbon nanotube on properties of concrete: A review

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: Carbon nanotube (CNT) has been increasingly used in concrete due to its good mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. This paper provides a comprehensive review on the use of CNT in concrete, including its effects on workability, mechanical properties, durability, and microscopic mechanisms. The results show that CNTs can bridge cracks, fill pores, and enhance the performance of concrete, while also reducing workability. Different dispersion modes and functionalizations of CNTs are discussed, as well as their applications as conductive fillers and self-sensing concrete. Overall, CNTC is a promising building material with various applications.

Boosting the adsorption and removal of dye from water by COOH-functionalized carbon nanotubes

Binran Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel discharge process was used to modify carbon nanotube (CNT) to remove methyl red from water. The modified CNT30 showed higher removal efficiency and adsorption capacity in a shorter time compared to pristine CNT. The discharge process developed in this study is environmentally friendly and can efficiently tune the properties of CNT30.

Functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes for oil spill cleanup from water

Thamer Adnan Abdullah et al.

Summary: The growing global economy has led to an increase in transportation and oil exploitation, resulting in oil spillage as a serious threat to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Water purification has become a major challenge worldwide. Traditional adsorbents for oil removal have drawbacks, leading research efforts to focus on finding adsorbents with improved oil adsorption capabilities, such as nano-adsorbents like multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

Improvement of heavy metal removal from urban runoff using modified pervious concrete

Pamodithya Wijeyawardana et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role and limitations of porous concrete in removing heavy metals from urban runoff. The major factors contributing to heavy metal removal in ordinary porous concrete are identified, and the effects of initial concentration, contact time, and competing ions on removal efficiency are discussed. The review also examines the impact of decalcification, atmospheric carbonation, and acid influent on heavy metal removal. The addition of adsorbent materials, Reduced Graphene Oxide, and pozzolanic materials to porous concrete is found to enhance removal efficiency and address some of the drawbacks. However, future studies should focus on developing methods to neutralize effluent pH and investigating the toxicity associated with modified porous concrete.

Effect of the rheological properties of fresh binder on the compressive strength of pervious concrete

Sungwoo Park et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of rheological properties of fresh binder on the compressive strength of pervious concrete. The results show that adhesion energy has the best correlation with compressive strength. Additionally, the 3D CT scanning test demonstrates the impact of rheological conditions of the binder on the homogeneity of pervious concrete.
