The Role of Community Engagement in Urban Innovation Towards the Co-Creation of Smart Sustainable Cities

Summary: One of the most recent topics in smart cities is community engagement, which has been widely discussed in terms of approaches and tools employed in urban environment. This study advocates for community engagement as a key driver for acquiring knowledge and requirements needed for innovation and creativity in order to achieve a socially sustainable and equitable community. Through a semi-systematic review of 71 sources from Web of Science and Scopus databases, this study presents a developed model that supports community engagement for urban innovation by identifying factors that influence community engagement in smart sustainable city development. The model allows various stakeholders in the urban environment to connect, interact, engage, and co-create innovative services. The findings of this research provide theoretical evidence for the involvement of administrative and non-administrative stakeholders in co-creating urban services for smart sustainable cities. Additionally, this study recommends how community engagement involving different stakeholders can contribute to resilient, technologically-driven cities and support sustainable development to actualize socially inclusive urban spaces.

Expanding the legal common good via sustainable urban mobility

Summary: The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the 2015 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Cycling Championship in Richmond, Virginia. The study found that the material investment was smaller than expected, pre-planning was crucial, the event involved multiple entities, a filiere approach to community service was important, and the event provided an opportunity to market other city and regional assets.

Data driven approaches for smart city planning and design: a case scenario on urban data management

Summary: Due to the use of digital technologies in smart cities, municipalities are facing challenges in urban data management and are seeking ways to exploit these vast amounts of data for data-driven services. This study presents a data-driven approach (architecture and model) for urban data management, aiming to improve smart city planning and design. The findings suggest that the identified enablers and developed architecture can support data-driven services in smart cities, providing guidelines for municipalities to enhance data-driven services in smart city planning and design.

Sustainable mobility in urban conditions- multimodal approach for greener cities: insights from Slovakia

The research findings indicate limited urban infrastructure and varying attitudes of Nitra's residents towards sustainable urban mobility.
