Single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry: A new method to detect geochemical anomalies in stream sediments

Aaron J. Goodman et al.

Summary: Single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) is a new tool for exploring hidden mineral deposits. It can detect metal nanoparticles (NPs) in stream sediments, allowing for the identification of subtle geochemical anomalies further from their source. Compared to conventional ICP-MS, spICP-MS lowers the detection limit substantially for insoluble elements.

Suppression of spectral interference in dual-elemental analysis of single particles using triple quadrupole ICP-MS

Ka -Him Chun et al.

Summary: The study utilized single particle-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (SP-ICP-MS) to analyze single particles/cells, and developed a method to optimize quadrupole voltages for expanded analytical capabilities while minimizing spectral interference. This technique successfully achieved accurate analysis of various particles and biological cells despite severe interference, showing great potential for practical applications.

Strategies to overcome interferences in elemental and isotopic geochemical analysis by quadrupole inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry: A critical evaluation of the recent developments

V Balaram

Summary: Quadrupole Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been widely used in geochemical and mineral exploration laboratories for nearly four decades, but has faced challenges such as spectral and non-spectral interferences. Recent advancements including high-resolution ICP-MS, cool plasma, and collision/reaction cell technology have been introduced to address these interferences and extend the range of accurately measurable elements.
