'It was Dangerous, Corrosive and Cruel but not Illegal': Legal help-seeking Behaviours Amongst LGBTQA plus Domestic and Family Violence Victim-survivors Experiencing Coercive Control in Australia

It's Kind of Hit and Miss with Them: a Qualitative Investigation of Police Response to Intimate Partner Violence in a Mandatory Arrest State

Summary: Despite a high incidence of intimate partner violence (IPV) in the United States, many perpetrators do not face accountability. This research study explores the experiences of survivors and service providers with the police in a mandatory arrest state. The study finds that police response to IPV-related calls is often inadequate, especially in rural areas. The mandatory arrest policy sometimes results in the criminalization of survivors. Trauma-informed training for police and the expansion of successful programs, such as the Lethality Assessment Program, are recommended.

I Have Guys Call Me and Say 'I Can't Be the Victim of Domestic Abuse': Exploring the Experiences of Telephone Support Providers for Male Victims of Domestic Violence and Abuse

Summary: Previous studies have provided evidence on the experiences of male victims of domestic violence and abuse, but current understanding is still limited. Little is known about how to support abused men and the challenges faced by both men and service practitioners. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with call handlers at a UK domestic abuse charity and identified stereotypes and expectations of men as a major theme that affected various aspects of the experiences of male victims and those supporting them. The study highlights the need for recognition, awareness, resources, and gender-inclusive services for male victims of domestic violence and abuse.
