Performance of a Solid-Fuel Ramjet Combustor with Bypass Air Addition

Jay V. V. Evans et al.

Summary: The influence of bypass air addition on the performance of a solid-fuel ramjet combustor was investigated. It was found that increasing the bypass ratio can lower the chamber pressure and increase the thrust, but at the expense of reducing the combustion efficiency. The maximum combustion efficiency was achieved at a bypass ratio of 15%.

Effect of Fluoroalkylsilane Surface Functionalization on Boron Combustion

Jihyun Baek et al.

Summary: In this study, the surface of boron particles was chemically functionalized with fluoroalkylsilanes. Among all the samples, the boron particles functionalized with the longest fluorocarbon chain showed the most powerful energetic performance and the highest heat of combustion. This suggests that surface functionalization with fluoroalkylsilanes is an efficient strategy to enhance boron ignition and combustion.

Tunable interfacial interaction intensity: Construction of a bio-inspired interface between polydopamine and energetic crystals

Congmei Lin et al.

Summary: Inspired by the strong adhesion of mussels and the hierarchical structure of nacre, novel PBX composites were designed and fabricated by coating explosive crystals with polydopamine. The results showed that these composites exhibited higher strength, toughness, creep resistance, and microstructural thermal stability compared to traditional PBXs. The enhancement mechanism involving van der Waals forces, pi-pi interaction, hydrogen bonds, and surface roughness was proposed to explain the improved mechanical properties and thermal stability of the PDA-modified PBXs.
