Adsorptions of C5F10O decomposed compounds on the Cu-decorated NiS2 monolayer: a first-principles theory

Hailong Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of Cu-decorated NiS2 monolayer and its adsorption and sensing performance for C5F10O decomposed species. The Cu atom is found to prefer the H1 site with a formation energy of -3.09 eV. Chemisorption occurs in the Cu-NiS2/C2F6O3 system, while physisorption occurs in the C3F6, CF2O, C2F6, and CF4 systems. The Cu-NiS2 monolayer shows potential as a reusable C3F6 or CF2O sensor and a high-sensitive one-shot C2F6O3 sensor, but is not suitable for C2F6 and CF4 sensing. This work is significant for proposing novel sensing materials for C5F10O-based insulation devices in the power system.

Gas sensing potential of monolayer MoB: A first principles study

Changqi Chen et al.

Summary: Monolayer MoB is studied for its adsorption characteristics of CO, NO, SO, and SO2 gases through first-principles calculations. The results show distinct adsorption preferences, with CO and NO adsorbing on the top of Mo and SO and SO2 adsorbing on the top of B. The adsorption energies are negative, with the lowest energy observed for SO adsorption. All gas molecules act as charge acceptors, and the largest charge transfer value of 0.977 eV is observed for SO2/MoB. While CO adsorption on monolayer MoB is reversible, the recovery of its initial state after adsorption of NO, SO, and SO2 is almost impossible at room temperature. MoB exhibits high sensitivity in detecting NO, SO, and SO2 due to its low adsorption energy, indicating its potential as a sensitive and irreversible detection sensor.

Strain-enhanced properties of Janus Si2PAs monolayer as a promising photocatalyst for the splitting of water: Insights from first-principles calculations

Gang Guo et al.

Summary: In this work, the structural stability and optoelectronic properties of Janus Si2PAs monolayer were systematically studied using first principles calculations. The calculations confirmed the stability of the monolayer and showed it to be a semiconductor with an indirect band gap of 1.91 eV and moderate band edge position. Optical property analysis revealed high optical absorption in the visible zone, and strain effects were shown to change the monolayer's properties. It was found that strain significantly enhanced visible light absorption and the band edge positions were suitable for a redox potential, making the monolayer a promising photocatalyst for water splitting.

First-principles study on two-dimensional Mo2B for its potential application in gas sensing

Mengyang Zhang et al.

Summary: Through first principles, the structural and thermal stability of monolayer Mo2B was demonstrated. The adsorption energies of NO, NO2, CO, and CO2 on Mo2B were calculated, showing a high selectivity for NO and NO2. The charge transfer numbers indicated that Mo2B could be used as a reversible and sensitive detector for CO2. The recovery time for CO2/Mo2B system was only 10-4 s, while for the other molecules, it exceeded 1010 s, suggesting irreversible detection.
