Multi-crosslinked flexible nanocomposite hydrogel fibers with excellent strength and knittability

Minjie Pei et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully fabricated hydrogel fibers with excellent mechanical properties and demonstrated their potential in biomedical applications. Cellulose nanocrystal/polyvinyl alcohol nanocomposite hydrogels were prepared through rapid covalent crosslinking and strong hydrogen bonding interaction derived from tannic acid. The multi-crosslinked skeletal structure endowed the hydrogels with superior tensile strength and high water content compared to polyvinyl alcohol-glycidylmethacrylate hydrogels. The flexible and mechanically stable hydrogel fibers exhibited a tensile strength of 7.3 MPa and a breaking elongation of 123.8%, and could be easily knitted into various complex geometries or integral textiles, suggesting their great potential for woven smart devices.

A highly-crosslinked phthalonitrile modified bismaleimide-triazine resin for PCB substrates: The synergistic effect on curing behavior and properties

Xiaoqing Liu et al.

Summary: By modifying bismaleimide-triazine (BT) resin with 4-(4-amino-phenoxy)phthalonitrile (4-APN), the reactivity of BT resin can be increased and the curing temperature can be decreased, resulting in poly(BT/APN)s with high heat-resistance, high breakdown strength, excellent insulation properties, improved moisture resistance and toughness. Therefore, poly(BT/APN)s can be considered as an ideal material for microelectronics.

Colorless, Low Dielectric, and Optically Active Semialicyclic Polyimides Incorporating a Biobased Isosorbide Moiety in the Main Chain

Ririka Sawada et al.

Summary: This study prepared seven types of polyimides (PIs) incorporating a chiral isosorbide (ISS) skeleton in the main chain (ISS-PIs), which exhibited excellent optical transparency, low refractive indices, and low dielectric constants compared to wholly aromatic PIs. The bulky alicyclic ISS structure and the bent and flexible PI main chains with reduced intermolecular interactions contributed to the optical properties of ISS-PIs.

Investigation of the structure-dielectric relationship of polyimides with ultralow dielectric constant and dissipation factors using density functional theory

Yu-Che Chen et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the relationship between the chemical structures and dielectric properties of polyimides (PIs) with low dielectric constant (Dk) and dissipation factor (Df). By utilizing density functional theory simulation, the limitations of the additive group contribution method were addressed. The study established a confident correlation of Dk and Df values with the structure parameters of PIs, shedding light on the design of insulating materials at high frequencies.

New evaluation method for the curing degree of rubber and its nanocomposites using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy

Shun Muroga et al.

Summary: A nondestructive method using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy was proposed to evaluate the curing degree of cured rubbers and their nanocomposites, specifically in fluorine-based rubber. The study found that the FWHM of the C=O band can be used as a standard to measure the crosslinking density, showing good applicability in the presence of various nanofillers. Additionally, the study revealed that FWHM was more sensitive to changes in crosslinking density when fillers like CNTs were added to the rubber compared to changes in Young's modulus.

Correlating the Molecular Structure of Polyimides with the Dielectric Constant and Dissipation Factor at a High Frequency of 10 GHz

Chih-Cheng Kuo et al.

Summary: This study extensively investigated the relationships between the structure and dielectric properties of polyimides, revealing highly correlated relationships between dielectric constant values and structural parameters such as fluorine content and volume polarizability. Additionally, a strong correlation was found between dissipation factor values and the imide group content. However, there were multiple positive trends in the relationship between dissipation factor values and volume dipole moment, attributed to the challenges in elucidating local molecular motions in the unit structure of polyimides.
