Review of 2D MnO2 Nanosheets as FRET-Based Nanodot Fluorescence Quenchers in Chemosensing Applications

Sharanabasava D. Hiremath et al.

Summary: In the past decade, MnO2 nanostructures have been extensively used in chemosensing applications due to their unique redox properties and structural diversity. The most common strategy is to use low-dimensional fluorescent dots as donors and 2D MnO2 nanosheets as acceptors in Fo''rster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based chemosensing assays. This review focuses on the detection strategies involving fluorescent nanodots and MnO2 nanosheets, with an emphasis on the detection of various analytes through the decomposition of MnO2 nanosheets triggered by analyte-triggered redox reactions. The review also discusses the synthesis, properties, and FRET mechanism of nanodots and MnO2 nanosheets.

MnO2 nanosheet-mediated target-binding-induced FRET strategy for multiplexed microRNAs detection and imaging in living cells

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a MnO2 nanosheet-mediated target-binding-induced fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) strategy was developed for detection and imaging of multiplexed miRNAs in living cells. The strategy successfully enabled simultaneous imaging of miRNA-373 and miRNA-96 in MDA-MB-231 and L02 cells, revealing higher expression levels of target miRNAs in MDA-MB-231 cells compared to L02 cells. This approach provides an alternative method for simultaneous accurate detection and imaging of multiplexed miRNAs with potential biomedical applications.

Homogenous FRET-based fluorescent immunoassay for deoxynivalenol detection by controlling the distance of donor-acceptor couple

Olga A. Goryacheva et al.

Summary: Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are widely used as luminescent labels in food and medical analysis, and in combination with gold nanoparticles (GNs) as energy acceptors in Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) pairs to develop highly sensitive biosensors. The developed homogeneous FRET-based immunoassay for detecting deoxynivalenol (DON) demonstrates the potential of fast and high-throughput mycotoxin control with a low limit of detection.
