Separation of waste tantalum capacitors by supercritical methanol: Recovery of high-purity metal tantalum and producing of bisphenol/ diphenyl chemicals

Fu-Rong Xiu et al.

Summary: With the rapid upgrading of electronic products, a novel and high-efficiency supercritical methanol (SCM) process was developed for the recovery and purification of tantalum and resins from waste tantalum capacitors (WTC). Under the optimal SCM conditions, 97.1% of the external resins of capacitor were converted into oil and gas, and the high-purity metal tantalum could be fully recovered. The SCM method is an environmentally friendly process without any discharge of waste water and off-gas.

Review on metal dissolution characteristics and harmful metals recovery from electronic wastes by supercritical water

Jingwei Chen et al.

Summary: Supercritical water (SCW) technology can efficiently recover toxic or complex chemical wastes, but salt deposition and corrosion hinder its commercial applications. Research on salt solubility in high pressure/temperature water provides ideas and references for follow-up research on metal recovery.

Effect of quantitative characteristic structure of resole phenolic prepolymer resin on thermal stability, pyrolysis behaviors, and ablation properties

Honglin Hu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the relationship between the structure of resole phenolic prepolymer resin and the cross-linking degree of cured resin on ablation properties. It proposes quantitative characteristic structure and CLD characterization methods, providing a fast and accurate identification method for quality conformity and developing novel anti-ablation resin. The results show that the ablation properties of resole phenolic resin are optimal when the formaldehyde/phenol value of prepolymer is in the range of 1.20-1.46.

Electronic waste generation, regulation and metal recovery: a review

Rajarathinam Nithya et al.

Summary: E-waste is a rapidly growing sector contributing to environmental threats due to improper disposal practices. Asia, USA, and Europe are the major regions generating e-waste, with a large portion left untreated or informally processed. Although policies have been implemented to regulate e-waste management, challenges persist in enforcing them effectively across borders in a globalized world.

Effect of Acid Leaching Pre-Treatment on Gold Extraction from Printed Circuit Boards of Spent Mobile Phones

Nicolo Maria Ippolito et al.

Summary: The study explored the effectiveness of a preliminary acid leaching process for recovering gold from spent mobile phone printed circuit boards. Two hydrometallurgical routes were tested to recover copper first to prevent competition with gold in the subsequent thiourea leaching. The recovery rates of copper and gold varied depending on the route and operational parameters.

Co-treatment of PVC and used LCD panels in low-temperature subcritical water: Enhanced dechlorination and mechanism

Fu-Rong Xiu et al.

Summary: The dechlorination of PVC and removal of organic materials from waste LCD were simultaneously accomplished using low-temperature subcritical water (SubCW) co-treatment. Adjusting parameters such as temperature, time, ratio, etc., significantly influence the dechlorination efficiency and chlorine distribution.
