Treatment of soda ash chromite ore processing residue by Waste-Molasses-Based Ball Milling: A new strategy for disposal of waste with waste

Lanbin Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a ball milling + waste molasses method to detoxify leached-soda ash Chromium Ore Processing Residue (COPR). Under the best conditions, the reduction efficiency of Cr(VI) reached 98.35%, and the TCLP total Cr concentration met the standard of the US Environmental Protection Agency. The study provides a cost-effective method for COPR detoxification and offers a new reference for waste disposal.

Phytoremediation of Cr(VI) in wastewater using the vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides)

Farai Masinire et al.

Summary: The study found that vetiver grass is effective in removing Cr(VI) from wastewater, with higher removal rates observed under acidic conditions and with higher grass density. At low initial concentrations, chromium was mainly distributed in the underground parts of the plants, while at higher concentrations, it accumulated in the leaf mass fraction.

Chromium contamination and effect on environmental health and its remediation: A sustainable approaches

Shiv Prasad et al.

Summary: Chromium is a critical trace element for human health, but contamination, particularly in the form of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], has increased in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities. Excessive exposure to chromium can lead to toxic health effects in humans and animals, while pollution negatively affects plant metabolic activities, reducing crop quality. Monitoring and implementing remediation technologies is essential to balance the environment and nature.

Highly surface activated carbon to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous solution with adsorbent recycling

Yi Fang et al.

Summary: The efficiency of Cr(VI) removal by ballmilled highly activated carbon (HAC) under neutral conditions was significantly improved due to the increased content of surface acid functional groups. Two mechanisms for Cr(VI) removal were proposed, involving reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) and formation of chromium hydroxides on the surface of HAC, as well as bonding of CrO42- on the surface COOH groups.
