Cu cluster emb e dde d porous nanofibers for high-performance CO 2 electroreduction

Zhifeng Xin et al.

Summary: Metal-doped carbon materials, such as Cu cluster embedded porous nanofibers, show promise as electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR). In this study, highly porous nanofibers with uniformly dispersed Cu clusters were prepared through the carbonization of electro-spun MOF/PAN nanofibers. The best catalyst, MCP-500, exhibited high catalytic performance for CO2 RR, with a Faradaic efficiency of CO as high as 98% at -0.8 V. The superior performance could be attributed to the synergistic effect between the layered graphene skeleton and uniformly dispersed Cu clusters.

Synergy of Cu/C3N4 Interface and Cu Nanoparticles Dual Catalytic Regions in Electrolysis of CO to Acetic Acid

Xupeng Yan et al.

Summary: It was discovered that Cu nanoparticles supported on graphitic carbon nitride (Cu-CN) with the appropriate size exhibited a high acetate faradaic efficiency of 62.8% and a partial current density of 188 mA cm(-2) in the electrochemical reduction of CO to acetic acid. Experimental and theoretical studies revealed that the Cu/C3N4 interface and metallic Cu surface synergistically promoted the conversion of CO to acetic acid. The continuous production of acetic acid in a porous solid electrolyte reactor further demonstrated the potential of Cu-CN catalyst in industrial applications.

Mechanistic Insights into the Atomic Distance Effect on Adsorption and Degradation of Aromatic Compounds

Yi Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) anchored by Ni single atoms, Ni clusters, and NiO nanoparticles were successfully constructed as reaction platforms. The results showed that Ni-AC/CTF exhibited the highest adsorption capacity and the fastest reaction kinetics for BP-2 and RhB, respectively. The interaction between Ni atoms in the atomic clusters in Ni-AC/CTF was found to cause benzene ring distortion in pollutant molecules, further promoting the ring cleavage reaction and improving electron delocalization and transport, which synergistically enhanced the aromatic pollutant removal performance.

Yi Shen et al.

Summary: Adsorption-photocatalysis technology can effectively remove long-lasting organic micropollutants (OMPs) in water by enriching the pollutants and regenerating the materials. In this study, a Ti/MDCTF composite with specific and strong chemical bonds (Ti-ON bonds) was synthesized to improve the adsorption and photocatalytic performance. The composite exhibited increased adsorption capacity and enhanced photocatalytic degradation compared to pristine MDCTF. The results confirmed that the adsorption kinetics were controlled by intra-particle diffusion, and the composite showed high regeneration efficiency after multiple degradation cycles.

Cu-Zn-based alloy/oxide interfaces for enhanced electroreduction of CO2 to C2+products

Zi-Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: Researchers developed a Cu-Zn alloy/Cu-Zn aluminate oxide composite electrocatalytic system to enhance the conversion of CO2 to C2+ products. They found that Cu-Zn oxide transforms into Cu-Zn alloy while Cu-Zn aluminate oxide remains unchanged. The closely stacked alloy and oxide create highly active reaction interfaces, promoting the adsorption and activation of CO2, dissociation of H2O, and adsorption of CO intermediates, resulting in efficient C-C coupling to produce C2+ products.

Resolving the Size-Dependent Transition between CO2 Reduction Reaction and H2 Evolution Reaction Selectivity in Sub-5 nm Silver Nanoparticle Electrocatalysts

Xingyi Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the size-dependent transition between the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) and H-2 evolution reaction (HER) selectivity for Ag nanoparticle electrocatalysts in the sub-5 nm range. Our results showed that 3.7 nm-diameter particles exhibited the highest combination of CO2RR activity and selectivity. Smaller diameter particles favored HER due to a high population of Ag edge sites, while larger diameter particles had decreased catalyst utilization due to a growing population of electrochemically inaccessible, interior atoms.
