Summary: Medical interventional catheters are essential devices that are revolutionizing clinical applications in various specialties. However, challenges still exist in terms of antibiofilm properties and effective drug delivery. Inspired by nature, a bioinspired superwettable catheter has been developed using inverse opal photonic crystals hydrogel. This catheter features a slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) that changes the motion state of droplets. The catheter's tunable structural color and drug release properties, achieved through the expansion and contraction of the hydrogel, allow it to report and quantitatively feedback on the drug release process. With excellent antibacterial performance and drug release monitoring capabilities, this multifunctional superwettable catheter holds great promise in biomedical applications.

Summary: This paper investigates the challenge of achieving unidirectional and long-distance oil transport in an aqueous environment and successfully fabricates an underwater superoleophilic two-dimensional surface (USTS) with asymmetric oleophobic barriers to arbitrarily manipulate oil in water. The behavior of oil on USTS is found to have unidirectional spreading capability originated from the anisotropic spreading resistance resulted from the asymmetric oleophobic barriers. Additionally, an underwater oil/water separation device has been developed to achieve continuous and efficient oil/water separation and prevent secondary pollution caused by oil volatilization.

Summary: This study reports an efficient strategy for lossless and directional oil and water droplet transport using a V-shaped underwater superoleophobic rail and a V-shaped superhydrophobic rail. The kinetic energy of impacting droplets is converted into planar motion by the V-shaped rail, while the droplet deformation creates a 3D Laplace pressure difference for directional droplet movement. The superoleophobic and superhydrophobic wettability of a copper rod surface is crucial for achieving lossless droplet transport due to low adhesive forces. The applications of this V-shaped rail extend to droplet sensors, microchemical reactions, droplet-based electricity generators, and water/oil separation.

Summary: In this study, a slippery surface was prepared using inverse opal colloidal crystals hydrogels, inspired by the microstructures of Nepenthes alata's peristome surface and Morpho menelaus, for biliary stents (BS) tips, which showed anti-adhesion and antibacterial properties. The drug release from the slippery surface could be controlled by changing the temperature, and the process could be monitored visually through structural color variations. Furthermore, a mechanism of droplet infiltration on the slippery surfaces under heating was proposed, which could be used for smart droplet transport. These multifunctional slippery BS tips exhibited good generalization and could bring more possibilities for biliary stents.

Summary: The exploration of high-performance NO2 sensors is important for air quality monitoring and human health. This study fabricated Au-doped ZnO@ZIF-7 core-shell nanorod arrays for sensitive and selective NO2 detection. The heterostructured ZnO-Au@ZIF-7 sensor showed excellent performance in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, anti-humidity capacity, and long-term stability. This approach combining noble metals doped semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) and MOF filtration membranes can be extended to the development of advanced chemiresistive gas sensors.

Summary: In this work, a three-dimensional ordered macroporous Au-loaded SnO2 sensor was developed, demonstrating ultrahigh room-temperature ppb-level NO2 sensitivity under intermittent UV light irradiation. The Au/SnO2 inverse opal structure was fabricated using a polystyrene opal crystal template, with finely dispersed Au nanoparticles anchored on the interconnected walls of SnO2. The decoration of Au nanoparticles improved the NO2 response of SnO2, especially under intermittent UV irradiation. The sensing mechanism responsible for the enhanced response toward NO2 was explained.

Summary: Developing a low-cost and eco-friendly method, researchers have created a waterproof and breathable cotton fabric composite decorated by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotube (CNT), enabling the development of a high-sensitivity multifunctional flexible sensor for pressure and temperature detection. The sensor shows promise in continuous and reliable monitoring of human physiological information, as well as non-contact real-time monitoring of human respiration signal. The study also demonstrates the feasibility of using an array of these sensors for perceiving and mapping the pressure and temperature information of contact objects.

Summary: Pressure injury is a difficult-to-heal wound for patients with limited mobility, and there is currently no existing device that can continuously monitor and promote healing of pressure injuries. In this study, a zwitterionic skin sensor was developed to address this issue. The sensor was able to monitor multiple indicators of pressure injuries in real-time and promote healing. In vivo experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of the sensor. This work provides a feasible domestic device for the treatment and monitoring of pressure injuries.

Summary: The multiactive encapsulated inverse opal film shows a potent antibacterial effect and promotes angiogenesis by loading vascular endothelial growth factor into nanopores and encapsulating by chitosan, making it crucial in chronic wound healing. The color change of the film structure can intuitively reflect the drug release progress, serving as a real-time drug monitoring system. In the affected wound model, the film's properties in promoting wound healing are confirmed by faster healing speed, more granulation tissue, less inflammation, and the distribution of new blood vessels and collagen, demonstrating its practical application value in clinical wound care.
