Dietary Fiber from Navel Orange Peel Prepared by Enzymatic and Ultrasound-Assisted Deep Eutectic Solvents: Physicochemical and Prebiotic Properties

Liling Zhou et al.

Summary: Dietary fiber was extracted from navel orange peel residue using enzyme and ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent methods. Ultrasound-assisted DES extraction resulted in higher yields and improved properties of the dietary fiber, such as increased soluble and total dietary fiber content, as well as improved water-holding capacity and oil-holding capacity. The extracted dietary fiber showed better prebiotic properties compared to commercial citrus fiber.

Optimization of microwave-ultrasound-assisted extraction (MUAE) of pectin from dragon fruit peels using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES)

Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Tien et al.

Summary: This research aimed to extract pectin from dragon fruit peels using a combination of MUAE and NADES under the Box-Behnken design. The highest pectin yield was achieved using the solvent system of choline chloride-glucose-water, with a yield of 19.39% under optimized conditions. The obtained pectin was high methoxyl pectin with a degree of esterification of 50.77%, exhibiting pseudoplastic behavior.

Natural deep eutectic solvents pretreatment as an aid for pectin extraction from apple pomace

Mingrui Chen et al.

Summary: Three natural deep eutectic solvents were tested as pretreatments for apple pomace prior to pectin extraction. CC:LA and CC:U pretreatments showed similar overall recovery yields, while CC:OA led to polysaccharide degradation. CC:LA pretreatment at 40 degrees C for 1 hour helped maintain cell wall monosaccharide composition and facilitated extraction of high molecular weight pectin.
