Aptasensors versus immunosensors-Which will prevail?

Sofia Arshavsky-Graham et al.

Summary: Since the invention of the first biosensors 70 years ago, they have become valuable tools for various applications. Antibodies have traditionally been used as capture probes in biosensors, but suffer from limitations such as size, conjugation chemistry, stability, and cost. Aptamers have emerged as promising alternatives, offering advantages over antibodies and introducing new biosensing concepts.

A review of cardiac troponin I detection by surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy: Under the spotlight of point-of-care testing

Anel Savinon-Flores et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the strategies used for the detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) considering the requirements of point-of-care testing (POCT). Based on the reported detection ranges, this study suggests other diseases that could be diagnosed with SERS technique besides acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Information about the release kinetics or cut-off values of cTnI in cardiac and non-cardiac diseases is also provided. Additionally, this article discusses the features of POCT, the use of SERS as a POCT technique, and the biochemistry of cTnI.
