Inclusion of hybrid rye in diets for weanling pigs does not compromise daily gain, but may reduce diarrhea incidence despite pigs having preference for consuming corn over hybrid rye

M. L. McGhee et al.

Summary: The experiments showed that nursery pigs preferred corn-based diets over diets containing a mix of corn and hybrid rye. While replacing corn with hybrid rye did not affect average daily gain or final body weight of pigs, it did reduce gain to feed ratio due to increased feed intake. Hybrid rye may help modulate the immune response in pigs by reducing diarrhea incidence.

Effect of oat particle size on energy and nutrient utilization in growing pigs

Bonjin Koo et al.

Summary: The experiment investigated the energy content of oats and the effects of oat particle size on nutrient and energy balance in growing pigs. Grinding oats to 619 μm was suggested for optimal energy utilization, while further grinding to 569 μm reduced calcium and phosphorus digestibility in pigs.
