Theoretical analysis on the deformation of existing tunnel caused by under-crossing of large-diameter slurry shield considering construction factors

Zhi Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, a simplified analytical method is proposed to evaluate the deformation behaviors of existing tunnels caused by large-diameter slurry shield under-crossing. The method takes into account construction factors such as additional thrust, friction force, and grouting pressure, and calculates the deformation of the existing tunnel in saturated soil. The proposed method is verified with field measurement data and a parametric analysis is conducted to study the influence of different factors. Safe values for shield crossing clearance are recommended based on the analysis. This analytical solution can serve as a reference in predicting potential risks in engineering practices.

Longitudinal responses of shield tunnel subjected to surcharge considering dislocation

Fayun Liang et al.

Summary: Improper soil dumping and irregular backfilling can lead to excessive deformation of shallow tunnels in soft-soil areas due to surcharge. This study developed a numerical method, using Timoshenko beams and Pasternak foundation, to assess the effect of surcharge loading on tunnel responses. Results showed that neglecting the shearing-induced dislocation of tunnel segments could underestimate the deformation induced by surcharge loadings and lead to overprediction of the serviceability of the tunnel in surcharge accidents.

Method of Calculating the Compensation for Rectifying the Horizontal Displacement of Existing Tunnels by Grouting

Yongjie Qi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the corrective effect of sleeve valve pipe grouting on the displacement of subway tunnels, proposing a mechanical model and calculation formulas that align well with actual engineering data. It suggests that enlarging the grouting volume within a reasonable range can enhance the corrective effect, with the influence of grouting decreasing as the grouting distance increases. Additionally, setting the bottom of the grouting section at the same depth as the lower end of the tunnel maximizes the corrective effect.
