The effects of climate change adaptation strategies on the welfare of rural farm households in Ethiopia

Summary: This study uses a three-wave panel data derived from the World Bank's geo-referenced household socioeconomic survey and NASA's historical weather data to estimate the impact of multiple climate change adaptation strategies (CCAS) on farm household welfare. The results show that combining CCAS, such as crop rotation and improved seed varieties, is the most effective way to improve the welfare of smallholder farmers. Furthermore, climate change and technology adoption are identified as the most important factors influencing rural farm household welfare, and the effectiveness of CCAS varies among farm households.

Climate change, degradation, and land acquisitions: evaluating inequalities among competing interests for suitable cropland in Ethiopia

Summary: Land is a crucial resource for agriculture, and in many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, future declines in land productivity due to environmental change pose a major threat to smallholder farmers. Additionally, large-scale land acquisitions promoted by governments in the region are also endangering smallholders' access to land. This study examines the quality of land controlled by smallholders compared to large investors in western Ethiopia, focusing on the future suitability of land for growing maize, sorghum, and beans. The results show that climate-induced land degradation will lead to decreased suitability for all crops in Ethiopia by the late 21st century, and LSLA tend to occupy more suitable land, indicating potential insecurity of agricultural land for smallholders.

Improving the Representation of Climate Change Adaptation Behaviour in New Zealand's Forest Growing Sector

Impact of soil salinity on mangrove restoration in a semiarid region: a case study from the Saloum Delta, Senegal

Global predictions of primary soil salinization under changing climate in the 21st century

Monitoring land use and soil salinity changes in coastal landscape: a case study from Senegal
