Comparison of clinical, pathological and long-term renal outcomes of children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis and IgA nephropathy

Meral Torun Bayram et al.

Summary: The study compared the clinical, pathological, and long-term renal outcomes of children with HSPN and IgAN, finding little difference between the two in our population. HSPN patients had higher proteinuria at the onset of nephritis, likely associated with inflammation due to systemic vasculitis, but both groups showed good long-term renal outcomes.

IgA vasculitis nephritis clinical course and kidney biopsy - national study in children

Malgorzata Mizerska-Wasiak et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between clinical symptoms severity, histopathological lesions in kidney biopsies, and indications for kidney biopsies in children with IgA vasculitis nephritis. The study found that severity of proteinuria correlated with biopsy results, with nephrotic proteinuria patients recommended to undergo biopsy within 3 weeks of symptom onset. Additionally, patients with abdominal symptoms were predisposed to higher MESTC scores in kidney biopsies.
