Immunoregulatory silicon-deposited implant promotes osseointegration

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: A silicon-releasing coating for titanium substrates was fabricated using electron beam evaporation, which activated an anti-inflammatory macrophage phenotype and created an osteoimmune microenvironment conducive to interfacial osteogenesis. The mechanism of silicon-enhanced osteoimmunology established in this study provides both practical means and theoretical evidence to improve implant-to-bone osseointegration.

Surface competition between osteoblasts and bacteria on silver-doped bioactive titanium implant

David Pinera-Avellanedaa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the rapid integration and prevention of bacterial infection using a silver-doped calcium titanate coating on titanium implants. The antibacterial effect of the silver-doped layer was confirmed without any negative impact on osteoblast-like cells. In vivo evaluation of porous titanium implants showed that the incorporation of silver prevented bone bacterial infection and promoted suitable osseointegration.

Avicularin alleviates osteoporosis-induced implant loosening by attenuating macrophage M1 polarization via its inhibitory effect on the activation of NF-?B

Yunshang Yang et al.

Summary: Currently, antiosteoporosis therapy alone can reduce the failure rate of internal fixation in patients with osteoporosis. However, anti-osteoporotic drugs are not a complete solution, and other causes of surgical failure, such as inflammation, need to be investigated. This research examines the inhibitory effect of avicularin (AL) on macrophage M1 polarization, which improves inflammation and alleviates implant instability in mice with osteoporosis.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide and brain-derived serotonin are related to bone loss in ovariectomized rats

Rui-hao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that the expression of CGRP in the femur of osteoporotic patients was downregulated, while the expression of CGRP and serotonin in the spinal cord and brainstem was increased. These results suggest that the activation of osteoclasts may trigger the release of CGRP from sensory nerve fibers and promote serotonin release in the spinal cord and brainstem, contributing to bone loss in postmenopausal osteoporosis.
