The Role of STEM Professors' Mindset Beliefs on Students' Anticipated Psychological Experiences and Course Interest

Jennifer LaCosse et al.

Summary: Two decades of research have shown that students' beliefs about the malleability of intelligence affect their motivation and academic outcomes, and that professors' mindset beliefs also influence students' anticipated psychological experiences and interest in courses. Professors with fixed mindsets are associated with more negative psychological experiences, lower performance, and lower course interest, especially among female students. This suggests that professors' perceived mindset beliefs may hinder students from pursuing STEM courses.
