Analyzing the impact of COVID-19 on the financial performance of the hospitality and tourism industries: an ensemble MCDM approach in the Indian context

Swagata Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the financial performance of 22 listed Indian hotels and 9 listed travel agencies in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the MEREC and CoCoSo methods, the study objectively determines the weights of various parameters and evaluates the overall performance score of the selected companies in the hospitality and tourism industries, ranking them accordingly. The findings reveal that certain companies, such as Westlife Development, Lemon Tree Hotels, and Indian Tourism Development Corporation, experienced significantly poorer performance, while others, such as EIH, Advani Hotels and Resorts, and TGB Banquets, performed relatively better. Easy Trip and International Travel House, two travel agencies, performed particularly poorly, whereas VMV Holidays showed relatively better performance in FY 2021.
