Revisiting the vulnerable dark triad hypothesis using a bifactor model

Dominick Gamache et al.

Summary: This study tests the hypothesis that borderline pathology, vulnerable narcissism, and Factor 2 psychopathy share a common Vulnerable Dark Triad (VDT) core. The results support a bifactor model with a general VDT factor and three group factors (Reckless, Entitled, Hiding). The general VDT factor is primarily characterized by borderline symptoms reflecting self-hatred and worthlessness, while the group factors have distinct relationships with Dark Triad traits and aggression.

A French Adaptation of the Affective and Cognitive Measure of Empathy (ACME-F)

Claudia Savard et al.

Summary: Vachon and Lynam (2016) introduced the Affective and Cognitive Measure of Empathy (ACME), which includes an affective dissonance scale not found in other empathy measures. This study examined the French version of the ACME and found it to be consistent with the original English version in terms of structure, internal consistency, and validity. The French version provides a valuable alternative for researchers and clinicians interested in measuring different dimensions of empathy.

Delroy L. Paulhus et al.

Summary: Research suggests the importance of including sadism in the constellation of dark personalities, and a four-factor measure including sadism was developed. Through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, the position of sadism in the four-factor structure was confirmed, along with its correlations with the Big Five and adjustment. The study also revealed a novel link between sadism and sexuality, while showing no association with maladjustment.

Factor Mixture Analysis of the Dark Triad and Dark Tetrad Could Sadism Make a Difference?

Bojana M. Dinic et al.

Summary: The research findings suggest that a variable-centered approach is more suitable for describing the Dark Triad, while a person-centered approach may be more appropriate for describing the Dark Tetrad, especially when sadism is included. The inclusion of sadism not only contributed to isolating a profile more prone to sadism, but also led to the isolation of other profiles, potentially changing the relationships among dark traits.
