An integrated colorimetric and photothermal lateral flow immunoassay based on bimetallic Ag-Au urchin-like hollow structures for the sensitive detection of E. coli O157:H7

Gan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, bimetallic Ag-Au urchin-like hollow nanospheres (BUHNPs) were developed through a simple and rapid synthesis method. BUHNPs exhibited excellent performance in terms of colorimetric signal brightness, photothermal signal strength, and antibody coupling efficiency. The colorimetric and photothermal LFIA (BUHNPs-CM-LFIA and BUHNPsPT-LFIA) based on BUHNPs were used for the sensitive detection of a pathogenic bacterium (Escherichia coli O157:H7). The detection limit values of the colorimetric and photothermal quantitative analysis were approximately 4-fold and 18-fold lower than that of AuNPs-LFIA, respectively. This study suggests that a dual-readout LFIA with BUHNPs as a promising signal reporter can improve the detection performance of LFIA and establish a more accurate and sensitive detection platform.

Accurate immunochromatography with colorimetric/photothermal dual-readout to detect nitrofurazone metabolites

Xuechi Yin et al.

Summary: The single-signal colorimetric immunochromatography assay is insufficient for current detection requirements. This study presents the construction of a dual-signal nanocomposite of TA/MoS2 @AuNRs by introducing tannic acid to exfoliate molybdenum disulfide nanosheets and selecting anisotropic gold nanorods as the nanocarriers. The proposed PCICA method demonstrates both colorimetric and photothermal detection of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde semicarbazone with high sensitivity. The immunoassay also shows satisfactory results in measuring SEM in honey samples.
