Real-time phase-resolved ocean wave prediction in directional wave fields: Enhanced and validation

I. -C Kim et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive study on deterministic real-time wave forecasting in directional seas using Lagrangian wave models. A balance between computational efficiency and model accuracy is achieved. A simplified assimilation method for wave reconstruction and a three-dimensional spatio-temporal prediction zone are proposed for real-time multidirectional wave prediction. Experimental comparison shows the importance of considering wave components in both direction and frequency for accurate wave prediction.

Experimental investigation of the hydro-elastic response of a spar-type floating offshore wind turbine

V Leroy et al.

Summary: As floating wind turbines increase in size, understanding their elastic and hydro-elastic behavior becomes significant. This study focuses on the hydro-elastic response of a large floating wind turbine in regular waves and severe sea-states. The study develops an experimental model to accurately represent the behavior of a realistic large floating wind turbine and highlights the importance of nonlinear hydrodynamics in hydro-elastic analysis.

In-Ocean Validation of a Deterministic Sea Wave Prediction (DSWP) System leveraging X-Band Radar to Enable Optimal Control in Wave Energy Conversion Systems

Mirko Previsic et al.

Summary: Advanced controls optimization offers a promising pathway to improve performance and reduce costs for wave energy conversion systems. The feasibility of wave resource forecasting within a 30-second time-horizon was investigated using an X-band ship navigation radar off the coast of Santa Cruz, California. Results show that the accuracy of wave prediction is sufficient to enable MPC-based control, paving the way for commercial utilization of these control techniques at sea.
