Enhanced photoelectrocatalytic decomplexation of Ni-EDTA and simultaneous recovery of metallic nickel via TiO2/Ni-Sb-SnO2 bifunctional photoanode and activated carbon fiber cathode

Juanjuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a TiO2/Ni-Sb-SnO2 bifunctional electrode was fabricated as the photoanode and activated carbon fiber (ACF) was introduced as the cathode to enhance Ni-EDTA decomplexation and Ni recovery via photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) process. The results showed that the bifunctional photoanode exhibited a higher decomplexation rate and Ni recovery efficiency compared to TiO2 photoanode and Ni-Sb-SnO2 anode. Replacing the stainless steel (SS) cathode with ACF cathode further improved the efficiencies.

Highly efficient Cu-EDTA decomplexation by Ag/AgCl modified MIL-53(Fe) under Xe lamp: Z-scheme configuration

Tengfei Li et al.

Summary: Heavy metal complexes are highly toxic to aquatic ecosystems and resistant to traditional treatments. In this study, an Ag-based modification strategy was used to improve the sunlight-driven photocatalytic activity of MIL-53(Fe) for Cu-EDTA decomplexation. The modified AM heterojunction composites showed greater decomplexation efficiency, with 93% Cu-EDTA elimination and nearly 60% mineralization achieved within 120 minutes of simulated sunlight irradiation.

Zhijie Guan et al.

Summary: A novel process of heterogeneous catalytic ozonation combined with heavy metal chelation was proposed for the effective removal of organic-Ni and -Cu complexes from electroless plating effluent. The method was successfully evaluated in a continuous pilot-scale system, showing over 95% removal of total Ni and Cu under optimal conditions for 300 days. The study provides valuable insights into complexation mechanisms and transformation products, supporting the practical application of the proposed process in industrial wastewater treatment systems.

Reactive Nitrogen Species Generated by Gas-Liquid Dielectric Barrier Discharge for Efficient Degradation of Perfluorooctanoic Acid from Water

Dahai Zhu et al.

Summary: The novel GLDBD reactor was designed to efficiently degrade PFOA with removal efficiencies over 98.0% within 50 minutes and energy yields exceeding 114.5 mg.kWh(-1). Reactive nitrogen species were identified as crucial for PFOA degradation in the plasma system, making the reactor less sensitive to various water matrices and promising for practical application. The research proposed possible PFOA degradation pathways based on LC-MS results and DFT calculation, providing an effective and versatile alternative for PFOA removal from different water matrices.

Efficient removal of EDTA-chelated Cu(II) by zero-valent iron and peroxydisulfate: Mutual activation process

Liu Fei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of zero-valent iron activated peroxidized sulphate (ZVI/PDS) synergistic action for the effective removal of EDTA-chelated copper. The results show that the ZVI/PDS process significantly improves the removal efficiency of complexed copper and total organic carbon compared to ZVI alone. Factors such as the molar ratio, initial pH, ZVI dosage, and PDS dosage influence the removal efficiency of complexed copper. Analysis indicates that the method can reduce chelated copper and immobilize it on the ZVI surface.

High-efficient decomplexation of Cu-EDTA and Cu removal by high-frequency non-thermal plasma oxidation/alkaline precipitation

Yue Liu et al.

Summary: Organic-heavy metal complexes are challenging to remove by traditional methods, but high-frequency non-thermal plasma oxidation/alkaline precipitation offers an efficient strategy. Cu-ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (Cu-EDTA) model achieved 98.8% removal efficiency at 6 kV after 10 minutes of treatment with air as carrier gas. Oxygen feeding, Cu2+ concentration, and EDTA concentration affect the decomplexation process, while (OH)· and O2^- in the NTP system play significant roles in the decomposition of Cu-EDTA.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of lattice oxygen on beta-PbO2 during electrochemical ozone production, showing that all three oxygen atoms in ozone originate from lattice oxygen. The EOP reaction pathway on beta-PbO2 follows the lattice oxygen mechanism, with different reactivity observed on different crystal surfaces. This insight can be applied to other applications of metal oxide-based electrocatalysts.
