Influence of Dietary Biosynthesized Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on Broiler Zinc Uptake, Bone Quality, and Antioxidative Status

Hidayat Mohd Yusof et al.

Summary: Traditionally, higher levels of inorganic zinc (Zn) were added to broiler chicken diets to meet optimal body requirements, but this can lead to heavy metal contamination. Nanomaterial ZnO NPs have unique properties that increase nutrient utilization and improve broiler physiological function and production. This study found that dietary biosynthesized ZnO NPs increased Zn absorption in broiler chickens, improved tibia bone development, and enhanced antioxidative status in serum and liver tissue.

Optical and Antibacterial Properties of Chiral Arginine-Stabilized ZnO Nanoparticles

Yuan Fan et al.

Summary: The surface ligands of nanoparticles (NPs) have significant effects on material synthesis, properties, and applications. Chiral molecules are a new hot topic in tuning the properties of inorganic NPs. In this study, L-arginine and D-arginine-stabilized ZnO NPs were prepared and their self-assembly and photoluminescence properties were investigated. The results showed a clear chiral effect, indicating that the chiral molecules on the surface of nanomaterials may affect their bioproperties.

Inhibitory effect and mechanism of gelatin stabilized ferrous sulfide nanoparticles on porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

Ting Tong et al.

Summary: In this study, gelatin stabilized ferrous sulfide nanoparticles (Gel-FeS NPs) were synthesized using co-precipitation method. The Gel-FeS NPs exhibited good dispersibility, biocompatibility, and high antiviral activity against PRRSV proliferation. The released Fe2+ from degraded Gel-FeS NPs still showed antiviral effect, highlighting the advantage of Gel-FeS NPs as an antiviral nanomaterial.

Anticancer properties of ZnO-Curcumin nanocomposite against melanoma cancer and its genotoxicity profiling

Shruti S. Deshpande et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan-coated ZnO nanoparticles were used as a nanocarrier to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin. The synthesized ZnO-curcumin nanocomposite showed improved solubility, drug loading, entrapment, and drug release efficiencies. It exhibited biocompatibility towards normal cells and selectively toxic effects on melanoma cancer cells. The release of curcumin from the nanocomposite was facilitated by the acidic pH of the tumor microenvironment, leading to cell death through ROS production and apoptosis. In vivo studies confirmed the anticancer properties of ZnCurNC and showed reduced tumor volume. Safety profiles of ZnCurNC revealed no genotoxicity. Overall, this research highlights the potential of ZnCurNC as an effective and safe anticancer agent for melanoma treatment.

Protein corona formation on silver nanoparticles under different conditions

Aysel Tomak et al.

Summary: Nanoparticle surfaces can be covered by biomolecules, forming a protein 'corona' that alters the characteristics and biological activity of the materials. The composition of the protein corona is dynamic, with initially bound abundant biomolecules being replaced by less abundant but more tightly bound ones. This study investigated the formation of the silver nanoparticle protein corona in cell culture media and found that the physiological environment directly affects the formation of the corona. Differences in the amount of bound proteins were observed depending on incubation conditions.

Ultrasmall Copper (I) Sulfide Nanoparticles Prevent Hepatitis B Virus Infection

Xiao Guo et al.

Summary: The study synthesized 4 +/- 0.5 nm copper (I) sulfide nanoparticles with chiroptical property to selectively cleave HBV core antigen under light at 808 nm, effectively blocking HBV assembly and preventing infection. The nanoparticles specifically bound with HBcAg and reduced intracellular HBcAg concentration, leading to decreased levels of HBsAg and HBV DNA in HBV transgenic mice. The results demonstrate the potential of nanomedicine in controlling HBV and providing new tools for viral infection.
