Free vibration analysis of elastic metamaterial circular curved beams with locally resonant microstructures

Sajad Karampour et al.

Summary: This study investigates the in-plane free vibration of elastic metamaterial circular curved beams. The effective material properties of the beams are obtained through the two-step homogenization method. The governing equation of motion is derived using the Euler-Bernoulli curved beam theory. The results show that the metamaterial curved beams have diverse future applications.

Implementation of Timoshenko curved beam into train-track-bridge dynamics modelling

Zhihao Zhai et al.

Summary: In this paper, an improved semi-analytical approach based on the Chebyshev-tau method is proposed for capturing curved bridge vibrations in train-track-bridge dynamic interaction. The approach considers rotary inertia and shear deformation and is implemented into the train-track-curved bridge coupled dynamics modeling. The accuracy and reliability of the approach are demonstrated through eigenvalue analyses and dynamic performance comparisons. The approach is further applied to analyze the dynamics of the coupled system, revealing significant differences compared to conventional methods.

Geometrically exact isogeometric Bernoulli-Euler beam based on the Frenet-Serret frame

A. Borkovic et al.

Summary: A novel geometrically exact model is developed for the spatially curved Bernoulli-Euler beam, which utilizes the Frenet-Serret frame and includes the nonlinear terms with respect to the cross-sectional coordinates. The formulation is invariant with respect to rigid-body motion, path-independent, and provides improved accuracy for strongly curved beams. A new reduced beam model is also proposed to simulate spatial beams with predominantly bent axes. The applicability of the obtained isogeometric finite element is verified through benchmark examples.

Fatigue reliability design of composite helical spring with nonlinear stiffness based on ply scheme design

Jun Ke et al.

Summary: Nonlinear stiffness composite helical spring has gained attention for its lightweight effect and reliable stiffness function. This study proposes a design method for such springs using typical materials and ply schemes. FEM models and simulation analysis are conducted, followed by strength and fatigue tests on samples with different ply schemes. The study validates a method for accurately predicting the failure of nonlinear stiffness composite helical springs. It provides a systematic design approach for fatigue reliability in composite structures with circular tube shape.

Geometrically exact static isogeometric analysis of an arbitrarily curved spatial Bernoulli-Euler beam

A. Borkovic et al.

Summary: The objective of this research is to develop a geometrically exact model for the analysis of arbitrarily curved spatial Bernoulli-Euler beams. The effect of curviness on the nonlinear distribution of axial strain over the cross section is included by utilizing the complete metric of the beam. The accuracy of the formulation is verified and the influence of curviness on the structural response is investigated.
