Proposal of a turbulent Prandtl number model for Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes approach on the modeling of turbulent heat transfer of low-Prandtl number liquid metal

Xi Huang et al.

Summary: Liquid metal with high molecular heat conductivity and low Prandtl number is a promising coolant for advanced nuclear systems. However, numerical modeling of turbulent heat transfer for low-Prandtl number liquid metal remains challenging. The conventional choice of turbulent Prandtl number in most engineering applications is not valid in this case. This study proposes a new model for the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes approach based on a calibrated relation with bulk Peclet number, which has been validated with LES/DNS results and experimental correlations.
