Metalens for generating multi-channel polarization-wavelength multiplexing metasurface holograms

Xiaosai Wang et al.

Summary: We demonstrate a method for multi-channel metasurface holograms, where the focal points of metalens represent the pixels of holographic images, achieving nanoscale resolution. The required phase profiles are implemented by arranging hybrid all-dielectric meta-atoms with specific orientation angles. By polarization control, two-channel single-color images are reconstructed on the focal plane of the metalens. Alternatively, three-channel color holograms are exhibited by manipulating the incident wavelengths. Uniquely, the metalens can be further engineered to generate polarization-wavelength multiplexing color holograms in six channels. Our work provides an effective approach to reconstruct holographic images and has potential applications in color display, information engineering, and optical encryption.

Metasurface optics for on-demand polarization transformations along the optical path

Ahmed H. Dorrah et al.

Summary: By using metasurfaces to independently shape the polarization state of a light beam at each point in space along its propagation direction, longitudinally variable polarization optical components are demonstrated; a new class of polarizers and wave plates based on metasurfaces can impart an arbitrarily chosen polarization response along the propagation direction, regardless of the incident polarization; this approach allows for the desired propagation-dependent polarization response to be enacted without prior knowledge of the incident polarization, expanding the use of polarization in the design of multifunctional metasurfaces.

Phase-Controlled Planar Metalenses for High-Resolution Terahertz Focusing

Xin Yu et al.

Summary: The experimental demonstration of high-resolution terahertz focusing in planar metalenses composed of V-shaped antenna units on a silicon substrate has shown that larger numerical apertures can improve spatial resolution. Numerical simulations were validated by experimental results obtained using a terahertz near-field imaging system, especially for 1.1 THz incident light. Increasing the numerical aperture from 0.79 to 0.95 resulted in a corresponding decrease in the full width at half maximum from 343 μm to 206 μm, demonstrating an enhancement in spatial resolution.

Continuous-zoom bifocal metalens by mutual motion of cascaded bilayer metasurfaces in the visible

Chang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a tunable bifocal metalens with two continuous-zoom foci is proposed and numerically verified. The design utilizes two cascaded layers of metasurfaces to achieve different focal lengths for incidences of opposite helicities. By laterally actuating the two layers of metasurfaces, the focal lengths of both foci can be continuously tuned, and the relative intensity of both foci can be modulated by altering the ellipticity of incidence.
