Radiation-enhanced thermal diode tank (RTDT) for refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) systems

Mingzhen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents the development and validation of simulation models for a Thermal Diode Tank (TDT) with a Radiation-enhanced Heat Pipe (RTDT). The results show that the RTDT can generate colder water and has double the heat transfer capacity compared to the Convection TDT (CTDT). Increasing the heat pipe condenser area significantly enhances the performance of the TDT, especially for the RTDT.

Performance Simulation Model of a Radiation-Enhanced Thermal Diode Tank-Assisted Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RTDT-RAC) System: A Novel Cooling System

Mingzhen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel technology to improve the energy efficiency of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems by applying a condenser cooling approach. By integrating an innovative thermal diode tank with the system, it is possible to lower the water temperature below the ambient temperature. The study shows that larger day/night ambient temperature differences and higher TS/Qc values can enhance the system's performance and energy saving percentage.

Novel desalination system that uses product water to generate cooling through a barometric ejector-condenser

R. Lopez-Zavala et al.

Summary: This article presents a novel Multiple Evaporation Desalination (MED) system that uses water product to generate cooling through sudden expansion and condensation of cold vapor caused by an ejector. The system was simulated using Aspen Plus and proved to be technically feasible under different operating conditions. The proposed system has a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 4.7, generating large amounts of cooling and significantly increasing the feasibility of MED technologies.

Falin Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, a vapor-injected water source heat pump using R1234ze(E) as the working fluid was experimentally investigated. The results indicate that vapor injection using a flash tank or internal heat exchanger can significantly increase the coefficient of performance and heating capacity of the proposed heat pump, with improvements of 22.3% and 8.1% (flash tank system) and 19.5% and 7.3% (internal heat exchanger system) compared to the no-injection system.

Energy-Saving Potential of Thermal Diode Tank Assisted Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Systems

Mingzhen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the energy-saving potential of applying a Thermal Diode Tank (TDT) in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (RAC) systems. The study demonstrates that the COP of the TDT-assisted RAC system can be improved by 10~59% compared to the baseline system. Additionally, TDT-RAC systems with variable speed compressors can achieve greater energy savings than those with fixed speed compressors. Increasing the tank size can also enhance the energy-saving effect. A case study based on real weather data shows that TDT-RAC systems can save 9~40% energy on average every summer day.
