Systematic Study of Resveratrol Nanoliposomes Transdermal Delivery System for Enhancing Anti-Aging and Skin-Brightening Efficacy

Xinchao Zhang et al.

Summary: Because of the stratum corneum barrier, the absorption of resveratrol through the skin is difficult, limiting its anti-aging and skin-brightening effects. Moreover, there is a lack of systematic studies on the efficacy of resveratrol in human skin, especially in three-dimensional skin models and clinical trials. To overcome this issue, resveratrol was encapsulated into nanoliposomes using the high-pressure homogenization method to develop a transdermal drug delivery system. The resveratrol nanoliposomes effectively improved the penetration and retention of the compound and enhanced its skin-care effects, as demonstrated through multiple levels of systematic studies and human clinical trials.

Study on the Intervention Mechanism of Cryptotanshinone on Human A2780 Ovarian Cancer Cell Line Using GC-MS-Based Cellular Metabolomics

Tong Wang et al.

Summary: The anticancer effect of cryptotanshinone (CT), a compound found in the traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, was investigated in ovarian cancer. CT was found to inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer cells and induce apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Metabolomic analysis revealed that CT affected multiple metabolic pathways, including aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis and energy metabolism. Changes in ATP and amino acid levels were confirmed by in vitro and in vivo experiments. This study suggests that CT exerts its anticancer effect by inhibiting ATP production and protein synthesis, and promoting protein degradation.

Protective effects of cordycepin against d-galactose-induced aging in rats: A view from the heart

Yuanxi Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cardioprotective effects of cordycepin in a d-galactose-induced aging rat model. The results showed that cordycepin improved cardiac function and attenuated aging through upregulating Klotho expression, downregulating senescence markers and oxidative stress marker expression, and enhancing the activity of antioxidant factors. Furthermore, cordycepin activated AMPK signaling pathway to exert its cardioprotective effects.

Oxidative Stress-Induced Cellular Senescence in Aging Retina and Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Ryo Terao et al.

Summary: Aging leads to a decline in organ function, including the eyes, resulting in age-related ocular diseases. Cellular senescence, characterized by cell cycle arrest, plays a significant role in aging and age-related diseases by altering cellular function and secretory phenotypes. Oxidative stress triggers cellular senescence and age-related diseases by inducing senescence markers through reactive oxygen species and mitochondrial dysfunction.

Discovery of potential active ingredients of Er-Zhi-Wan, a famous traditional Chinese formulation, in model rat serum for treating osteoporosis with kidney-yin deficiency by UPLC-Q/TOF-MS and molecular docking

Mengting Gao et al.

Summary: This study used UPLC-Q/TOF-MS system and molecular docking technology to search for potential active ingredients for treating osteoporosis with kidney-yin deficiency. The results suggested that specnuezhenide, salidroside, tyrosol, echinacoside, and verbascoside could be potential active ingredients. Furthermore, this study laid the foundation for further research on the mechanism of EZW in treating osteoporosis with kidney-yin deficiency.

Application of glutathione depletion in cancer therapy: Enhanced ROS-based therapy, ferroptosis, and chemotherapy

Boyi Niu et al.

Summary: Glutathione (GSH) plays a crucial role in cellular antioxidative system, particularly in cancer cells, where a high level of GSH is essential for scavenging ROS and detoxifying xenobiotics. Depletion of GSH has been shown to enhance the efficacy of various therapies such as ROS-based therapy, ferroptosis, and chemotherapy. This review comprehensively discusses the importance of GSH depletion in cancer therapy and various strategies employed to achieve it.
