Gas migration signatures over the volcanic cratered seamount, off the Nicobar Islands in the Andaman Sea

G. Sriram et al.

Summary: The submarine volcanic arc off-Nicobar is highly active seismologically, and two gas flares were observed during the 2018 expedition, originating from the outer flanks of a cratered seamount (CSM). These flares rose to depths of 225 m and 150-100 m from the ocean surface, confirming volcanic activity in the Andaman Sea. A new gas flare was also discovered in a southward direction during a subsequent survey in November 2021.

Biogeochemistry and trophic structure of a cold seep ecosystem, offshore Krishna-Godavari basin (east coast of India)

A. Peketi et al.

Summary: Recent reports show the presence of active cold seep sites associated with shallow gas hydrates off the east coast of India. Sampling of benthic fauna revealed different food sources and trophic structures among species. Isotope analysis of the soft tissues provided insights into the potential food sources and trophic interactions within the ecosystem.

Mineralogy, geochemistry and microbiology insights into precipitation of stibnite and orpiment at the Daiyon-Yonaguni Knoll (Okinawa Trough) hydrothermal barite deposits

V. M. Dekov et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the samples from the Daiyon-Yonaguni Knoll hydrothermal field, analyzing the composition of the chimneys and sulfides, as well as the fluids. The results show that the composition of the hydrothermal fluids is influenced by the sub-seafloor boiling and phase separation. This study provides important insights into the genesis of hydrothermal deposits and their relationship with hydrogeological processes.

Seismotectonic evaluation of off Nicobar earthquake swarms, Andaman Sea

Karanam Kattil Aswini et al.

Summary: The Andaman Sea has experienced a series of earthquake swarms caused by complex tectonics and volcanic activities, indicating a volcanic origin. Research suggests that these earthquake swarms are controlled by complex seismic processes influenced by geological structures and volcanic activities.

Morphotectonic signatures and revised timing of opening of the Andaman Backarc Basin, Northeast Indian Ocean

V Yatheesh et al.

Summary: The Andaman Backarc Basin is believed to have formed through seafloor spreading, separating two tectonic plates. While geophysical investigations have provided detailed information on the central sector, understanding of the eastern sector is still needed. Recent studies have led to a revision of the age of the basin's opening based on magnetic anomaly identifications.

Summary: GLODAPv2.2021 is an updated version of the Global Ocean Data Analysis Project, incorporating data from 43 new cruises, extending data coverage until 2020, and performing quality control to ensure accuracy. The adjustments aim to remove biases from errors related to measurement, calibration, and data handling practices while maintaining known trends in the evaluated variables.
