Photoresponsive reversible self-assembly of rod-coil amphiphiles containing spiropyran groups

Nan Ye et al.

Summary: Stimuli-responsive assembly and reversible light-mediated morphological alterations were observed in rod-coil amphiphilic compounds containing spiropyran groups in a solution system with 99% water content. UV irradiation caused the initial assemblies to deform or disassemble, while the removal of UV source led to the gradual recovery of the original nanostructures through the ring-closing reaction process. These compounds can selectively combine with copper ions and emit bright blue fluorescence, enabling the specific visual identification of copper ions in aqueous solutions.

Pyridinium Modified Anthracenes and Their Endoperoxides Provide a Tunable Scaffold with Activity against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel antibiotic scaffold that effectively targets multidrug resistant bacteria, including pathogens and mycobacteria. The antibacterial activity is influenced by the scaffold structure and the distance between positive charges, with the formation of anthracene endoperoxide further enhancing the antibacterial effect.

Self-assembly of propeller-shaped amphiphilic molecules: control over the supramolecular morphology and photoproperties of their aggregates

Nan Ye et al.

Summary: The study investigated the aggregation-induced emission effect of amphipathic propeller-shaped rod-coil molecules by controlling their morphology and photoproperties. It was found that the morphology of molecular aggregates can be controlled in both solid-state and solution-state assemblies, which exhibit strong AIE phenomena in mixed solutions.

Light-driven bimorph soft actuators: design, fabrication, and properties

Yuanhao Chen et al.

Summary: Soft robots that mimic living organisms and can adapt to their environment are gaining attention due to advances in material flexibility, human-friendly interaction, and biological adaptation. Light-driven actuators based on responsive soft materials are seen as promising for untethered soft robotics, with researchers focusing on photomechanics, photoswitching, bioinspired design, and actuation realization. This review discusses recent advances in light-driven bimorph soft actuators, highlighting the integration of photoactive and passive layers to endow soft actuators with new features like sensitivity, programmability, compatibility, robustness, and controllability.
