The results showed that feeding fish with chia seed powder improved growth performance, antioxidant-immune responses, and disease resistance. The optimal dosage was found to be 10 g/kg feed.

Serotypes, Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles, and Virulence Factors of Salmonella Isolates in Chinese Edible Frogs (Hoplobatrachus rugulosus) Collected from Wet Markets in Hong Kong

Summary: This study found that about 65% of live edible Chinese frogs collected from wet markets in Hong Kong were carriers of Salmonella, including multiple serotypes. The study also identified a number of antimicrobial resistance genes and virulence determinants, as well as 21% of the isolates being multidrug-resistant. Therefore, public health measures should be implemented to mitigate the risk of Salmonella transmission to humans through handling edible frogs.

Nanopeptide C-I20 as a novel feed additive effectively alleviates detrimental impacts of soybean meal on mandarin fish by improving the intestinal mucosal barrier

Summary: In this study, mandarin fish were fed with a soybean meal diet supplemented with different levels of nano antibacterial peptide C-I20. The results showed that feeding 160 mg/Kg C-I20 significantly improved the growth performance and intestinal health of mandarin fish and effectively reduced tissue injury. These findings suggest that dietary supplementation of a reasonable concentration of nano antibacterial peptide C-I20 can effectively alleviate the negative effects of soybean meal and provide a new strategy for aquaculture development.

A Novel Antimicrobial Peptide Derived from Bony Fish IFN1 Exerts Potent Antimicrobial and Anti-Inflammatory Activity in Mammals

Summary: The study identified a novel antimicrobial peptide (gcIFN-20) derived from grass carp interferon 1, which exhibits strong bactericidal and anti-inflammatory activities in mammals, and efficient therapeutic effects against clinical severe extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli and a mouse endotoxemia model. The mechanisms of its antimicrobial activity involve membrane disruption and cytoplasm overflow for Gram-positive bacteria, and membrane permeation and protein synthesis inhibition for Gram-negative bacteria. Its anti-inflammatory activity is achieved through aggregating and neutralizing lipopolysaccharide to attenuate its binding with receptors and facilitate phagocytosis.
