Cell-penetrating peptide-conjugated Morpholino rescues SMA in a symptomatic preclinical model

Margherita Bersani et al.

Summary: Spinal muscular atrophy is a motor neuron disease and the leading genetic cause of infant mortality. Recently approved therapies have transformed this deadly disease into a survivable one, but their clinical response is wide-ranging and effective only in the early stages. Therefore, there is an urgent need for safe, symptomatic-suitable, non-invasive treatments.

Co-delivery of anticancer drugs and cell penetrating peptides for improved cancer therapy

Xiao Fu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the one-pot synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol) mediated ZIF-8 NPs for the co-delivery of an anticancer drug and a cell-penetrating peptide to improve therapeutic efficacy. These pH-responsive NPs showed stability at neutral pH and released the encapsulated drugs at acidic pH, enhancing their cytotoxicity. This strategy provides a new perspective for the design of drug delivery systems and offers more opportunities for biomedical applications.

Functional and Bioactive Properties of Peptides Derived from Marine Side Streams

Ilknur Ucak et al.

Summary: In fish processing, side streams such as skin, bones, heads and viscera are rich sources of protein and bioactive nitrogenous compounds, which can be converted into peptides through enzymatic hydrolysis and bacterial fermentation. These peptides have applications as preservatives, antioxidants, and in modifying food ingredient properties for functional foods and nutraceuticals in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
