In situ growth of Bi/Ag double quantum dots on hollow Bi2MoO6 microspheres: Enhancement of the surface plasmon resonance effect on PMS activation

Yao Deng et al.

Summary: The effect of Bi/Ag double quantum dots on plasmon resonance and PMS activation was investigated. Bi/Ag double quantum dots were generated in situ on hollow Bi2MoO6 microspheres by stepwise irradiation using a high-energy β electron beam. The formation of Bi/Ag DQDs greatly optimized the light absorption of Bi2MoO6. The introduction of DQDs reduced the band gap and enhanced the SPR effect of Bi QDs, resulting in a highly efficient degradation of antibiotics in water.

Direct Z-scheme In2O3/AgI heterojunction with oxygen vacancies for efficient molecular oxygen activation and enhanced photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

Jue Liu et al.

Summary: A novel In2O3/AgI heterojunction with a hollow tubular structure and evenly distributed AgI particles on In2O3 microtubes was fabricated and showed much higher photocatalytic activity towards tetracycline degradation than In2O3 and AgI. The presence of InAg-1 achieved 98.4% removal of tetracycline in 10 minutes under visible light illumination and demonstrated excellent reusability and stability. The heterojunction also exhibited excellent performance in different water matrices and under natural sunlight, indicating its potential in practical applications. The superior photocatalytic activity is attributed to the heterojunction formation, oxygen vacancies, and the formation of a Z-scheme heterojunction between In2O3 and AgI.

Sharp-edged pencil type ZnO flowers and BiOI flakes combined with carbon nanofibers as heterostructured hybrid photocatalysts for the removal of hazardous pollutants from contaminated water

N. Ramesh Reddy et al.

Summary: The study synthesizes sharp-edged pencil-type ZnO flowers and BiOI flakes using a hydrothermal process, and combines them with carbon nanofibers (CNFs) to form a hetero hybrid catalyst (ZnO-BiOI@CNFs). The hybrid catalyst exhibits significantly enhanced degradation of azo dyes under solar simulator exposure compared to pristine ZnO and BiOI nanostructures. The degradation rate of the hybrid catalyst reaches 95%, which is 1.8 times higher than ZnO and 2.1 times higher than BiOI nanostructures. The hybrid catalyst also demonstrates efficient degradation of mixed dyes, providing valuable insights for commercialization and industrialization. The superior performance is attributed to the unique structure of ZnO, larger absorption zone, high surface area, reactive sites, and reduced recombination rate with a heterojunction interface, as well as the electron trap and sink capability of CNFs.

Yuting Shuai et al.

Summary: NiO/BiVO4 p-n heterojunction microspheres were synthesized using hydrothermal method for detection of triethylamine (TEA), which poses great danger to human health and environment. The prepared samples were characterized using XRD, XPS, SEM, UV-vis, and EIS. Among the different samples, the 10%NiO-BiVO4 sensor exhibited excellent gas sensing properties with fast response/recovery times, high humidity resistance, and low detection limit (3.42 ppb) towards TEA. The enhanced mechanism of the NiO/BiVO4 p-n heterojunction microsphere was also proposed. Therefore, coupling NiO with BiVO4 to form NiO-BiVO4 can be an effective strategy for improving TEA gas sensors.

Cs0.33WO3/(t-m)-BiVO4 double Z-type heterojunction photothermal synergistic enhanced full-spectrum degradation of antibiotics

Qian Yang et al.

Summary: The Cs0.33WO3/(t-m)-BiVO4 double-Z heterojunction photocatalysts were prepared using photodeposition method and Cs0.33WO3 photothermal effect. After 180 min of reaction to Visible/NIR light, the dual Z-type heterojunction photocatalyst degraded 40 mg/L TC at the rates of 90.49 % and 91.94 %, respectively. The TOC removal rates were 73.41 % and 75.85 %, respectively. Moreover, the double Z-type heterojunction photocatalyst has good degradation stability and broad-spectrum degradability in the full spectral range. The presence of small polariton leap effects in Cs0.33WO3 crystals radiates energy in the form of phonons and raises the temperature of the liquid-phase reaction system, and the photothermal-photocatalytic synergy accelerates and enhances the degradation catalytic activity of the heterojunction. The synergistic contribution of photothermal effectphotocatalysis applied to environmental purification is presented in this study as a novel and practical research proposal.

Dual modulation on peroxymonosulfate activation site and photocarrier separation in carbon nitride for efficient photocatalytic organics degradation: Efficacy and mechanism evaluation

Rongdi Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, sulfur and sodium co-doped cyano-rich polymeric carbon nitride (NaCNS) was designed to enhance the photocatalytic degradation of atrazine (ATZ) with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) assistance. NaCNS was synthesized through a two-step thermal condensation method with the presence of sodium chloride and cysteine. Batch experiments showed that the reaction rate constant of NaCNS was significantly increased by nearly sixfold compared to pristine carbon nitride. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the dual modulation of NaCNS, with sodium acting as a PMS activation site and the cyano and sulfur forming an electronic push-pull system for improved photocarrier separation.
