Highly Efficient Photocatalyst Fabricated from the Chemical Recycling of Iron Waste and Natural Zeolite for Super Dye Degradation

Fatma Mohamed et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe2O3 and Fe2O3-zeolite nanopowders were prepared using rusted iron waste and natural zeolite, and their photocatalytic performance was investigated. The Fe2O3-zeolite photocatalyst exhibited higher light absorption and more efficient degradation of methylene blue dye under visible light, indicating its potential as a promising nanomaterial for photocatalysis.

Bioflocculants from wastewater: Insights into adsorption affinity, flocculation mechanisms and mixed particle flocculation based on biopolymer size-fractionation

Victor Ajao et al.

Summary: The study found that microbial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from wastewater exhibit good flocculation performance in single clay systems, but mixed EPS is more effective in dual clay systems. The LMW and MMW fractions of EPS adsorbed to the surface first, while HMW-EPS attached more slowly but with stronger irreversibility.

Validation and optimization of key biochar properties through iron modification for improving the methane oxidation capacity of landfill cover soil

Dandan Huang et al.

Summary: This study prepared biochars with distinctly varying characteristics through iron modification, which proved to be a promising approach to more efficiently improve the three key biochar properties, especially pore volume, and optimize biochar performance. The Fe-modified biochars encouraged a bacterial consortium in the soil, significantly enhancing the CH4 oxidation capacities by up to 26%-74% compared to pristine biochar.

Comparative responses of cell growth and related extracellular polymeric substances in Tetraselmis sp. to nonylphenol, bisphenol A and 17α-ethinylestradiol

Qian Yang et al.

Summary: Estuarine ecosystems near mega-cities are important sinks of anthropogenic endocrine disrupting chemicals. This study focused on the responses of the estuarine microalga Tetraselmis sp. to different EDCs, showing that NP, BPA, and EE2 had varying effects on algal cell growth, chlorophyll production, and EPS profiles. The fate and effects of EDCs mediated by microalgae and their EPSs are crucial for understanding environmental risks.

Role of graphene oxide in modifying magnetism in ?-Fe2O3 nanoparticles: Raman and magnetization studies

Smhrutisikha Biswal et al.

Summary: The report discusses the structure and temperature-dependent magnetic properties of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles and α-Fe2O3/graphene oxide nanocomposite. It highlights the enhanced magnetism in the nanocomposite due to temperature-dependent charge sharing process. Raman spectroscopy is used to probe d.c. magnetization in a novel way to understand the underlying physics of the charge sharing process.

Simultaneous removal of hydrogen sulfide, phosphate and emerging organic contaminants, and improvement of sludge dewaterability by oxidant dosing in sulfide-iron-laden sludge

Ran Yin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that selecting and dosing suitable oxidants in sulfide-iron-laden sludge can effectively remove hydrogen sulfide, phosphate, and emerging organic contaminants, and improve sludge dewaterability. Among the investigated oxidants, H2O2, ClO2, and NaClO2 were identified as cost-effective options for controlling hydrogen sulfide release from liquid sludge.
