Concurrent removal of phosphate and ammonium from wastewater for utilization using Mg-doped biochar/bentonite composite beads

Huan Xi et al.

Summary: This study reports the excellent concurrent removal ability of a new adsorbent, SA-Mg@BC/BT, for phosphate and ammonium. The adsorbent has a high specific surface area and abundant functional groups, and its maximum adsorption capacities for phosphate and ammonium surpass those of other relevant adsorbents. The removal ability for phosphate remained stable in the presence of monovalent anions, while the adsorption capacity for ammonium was enhanced by divalent salts. The adsorption capacity in actual wastewater was almost the same as that in simulated wastewater, demonstrating the potential of SA-Mg@BC/BT for nutrient recovery.

Assessment andmanagement of lake eutrophication: A case study in Lake Erhai, China

Song-Shun Lin et al.

Summary: This study summarizes the sources and mechanisms that trigger eutrophication in lakes, and discusses effective tools for evaluating the degree of eutrophication. Using Lake Erhai as a case study, it was found in a mesotrophic state with N and P co-limitation before 2006, and only P limitation since then. Effective measures for maintaining sustainable development in the watershed and a framework for an early warning system utilizing GIS and RS technologies for preventing eutrophication are proposed.

Thiophene-based MOFs for iodine capture: Effect of pore structures and interaction mechanism

Lingyu Wang et al.

Summary: The study explores the iodine adsorption properties of five thiophene-based metal-organic frameworks, revealing that DUT-68 has the highest iodine adsorption capacity due to its large cage structure, while MIL53-TDC(In) has a lower capacity because of its small pore volume and confinement effect. In-DTC and Ho-DTC show almost no iodine adsorption properties due to their smaller pore sizes than the kinetic diameter of iodine molecules.
