Predictors of skilled birth attendance among married women in Cameroon: further analysis of 2018 Cameroon Demographic and Health Survey

Sanni Yaya et al.

Summary: This study in Cameroon found that factors such as media exposure, higher decision-making power, maternal education, place of residence, religion, economic status, wife beating attitude, parity, and skilled antenatal care were significant predictors of skilled birth attendance among married women. The research highlights the importance of addressing social, economic, regional, and cultural barriers to skilled childbirth services utilization in Cameroon, with interventions targeting women empowerment, antenatal care awareness, and strengthening, especially among the rural poor. To reduce inequities in the use of skilled birth attendance services, policies and interventions should focus on specific equity gaps related to socio-economic status, maternal education, and the economic empowerment of women.
